Scope turret question

I have a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9 power scope. My question is regarding something that the owner’s manual says to do after zeroing the scope. (By the way, the finger adjustable turret is marked with ¼ moa graduations, with 12 moa of adjustment per turn of the turret. The 0/12 mark is designated as an arrow). The manual says that after zeroing the scope I should loosen this little screw on the top of the turret, and pull the turret upwards, then move the turret until the 0/12 arrow is lined up with the index mark on the scope, then tighten the little screw down again. I’ve tried this, and my problem is that my turret won’t move upwards when pull on it. The screw will come completely out and it still won’t pop upwards. So my question is, what’s wrong, and what does the above described procedure do anyway?

My scope works fine, adjusts fine, and I’ve zeroed it with no problems whatsoever. Its turret just won’t cooperate (move upwards) when I try the above procedure. Any ideas?
Thanks a million,

It puts your zero right ont the 0/12 mark. So if you zero at 100 yds, and then move it later, you can just move it back to the 0/12 mark and you know you are back on 100. this also helps you find out where 1 full turn of the turret hits downrange.

oh, make sure there are not two little screws up there...and then again, maybe it is allready up, see if you can push it down.

There is not two screws on it, and it won't move down at all. I guess I'll take it to a local gunshop I know and see if they can figure out what's going wrong. Does anyone else have any specific experience with this kind of problem?

Just a thought... I've encountered manuals that cover multiple models. Does your manual cover your specific scope?

can you spin the turret without feeling the clicks/detents?

Hey,
Thanks all! I got it figured out. I just had to pull a bit harder than I was. It turns out that the outer part of the turret (the part that has the markings) comes completely off, and then you reset it back on at the 0/12 mark. The manual made it sound like it just popped up a bit and then spun without the clicks. Is this the way most scopes work?

Thanks,
