S&W 4516 or 457?

Keeping in mind that the 4516's are kinda rare these days ... which would you get for concealed carry?

I believe that the later-production 457 is probably the best gun overall, better trigger geometry, supposedly more accurate, and with great ergonomics ... but it has an alloy frame, which will cause recoil to be worse.

For about $50 less, you can get a police surplus 4516, so I was wondering how bad the accuracy is. I had a 4506 that was a great gun, but the accuracy was so-so and the ergonomics were 2x4 like. I can't remember the 4516's I've looked at being as bad. Also, the 4506's trigger must've been 9 pounds single action.

What would you get? Any opinions on concealing either of these guns? I will carry IWB.

I've got a 457, and I love mine.
I've had it a few months, and shot somewhere around 500 rounds through it.
No problems at all, and it feeds hollow points just fine.

As far as recoil, it is much easier to shoot than the Daly ECS or the Ruger P97.
I had purchased both of these first, before settling on the 457.
I went to the S&W forum and asked questions about this gun:
http://www.smith-wessonforum.com/

I also did a search here, and on TheFiringline.com.
I don't think I found one negative comment on this gun.
Some hate S&W, and some say S&W autos are junk.
As near as I can tell, earlier autos were not that great, but current S&W guns seem to get very good reviews.

If you've got any specific questions, email or IM me and I'll try to answer them.
Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with a 457.
Mine was $450, and I feel it was worth every penny.

Hi Mini,

Thanks for responding. Actually, I decided to go with the 4516, though I do not believe it is better in any way except recoil control, what with the heavy steel frame. I decided I just had to have that, as I've hated every alloy .40 or .45 I've ever shot. Thanks for the info though on the Ruger, which I almost bought because of their rebate. Sounds like I wouldn't have liked it.

When the gun arrives next week, I'll post a review.
