A regularly repeated theme suspect to examination: Don't carry small of back, you'll either shoot your butt or break your spine. Anybody have any real life examples? Calculating the odds, regards, Workingstiff

Even if you don't do either to yourself, how do you plan on sitting comfortably with a SOB rig?

I have tried the SOB, and my thoughts on this are:

1. you print like the hunchback of Notre Dame when you bend over.

2. Sitting with it long periods of time will make you back very sore.

3. If you actually fall landing on your back you can cause serious damage.

I have a dual mag carrier for my XD that I carry SOB and although it is comfortable, I do feel the pressure and can imagine what it would do if I actually landed on a firearm back there.

Only if you wear a vest or something else over an untucked shirt would I consider it concealed.

I have seen quite a few people carry SOB and every time they sit down are get into their truck/car it sticks out like a sore thumb. If you only cover it with a vest it jumps out and waves at you went you do any bending at the waist.

I fail to see what they would do that a more conventionally located holster would not.

Several years ago I bought a Galco SOB as I thought it was "cool"' When worn directly over the spine it was unusually uncomfortable whenever I sat down, particularly if on a straight backed chair. So, I moved the holster a couple of inches to the right (I am a right handed shooter) into the a hollow area and it worked just fine. Still use is to carry my Ruger SP101 "snubby" and it is a fine concealed carry holster. Just don't wear it directly over your spine and it performs quite well.:o

Haranguer,
Listen to sm. It doesn't matter why they want to carry SOB, if they do, what are the issues? Maybe for some reason they can't carry hip, ankle or shoulder.

SOB doesn't sound real good to me but I'm not in their shoes.

Real life example: knew a female detective in a SO who favored SOB carry for her S&W 3913. Aside from the fact that she was constantly printing and anyone standing behind her could see the clear outline of a semi-auto pistol through the short jackets she favored (not to mention that she frequently appeared to have a large growth on her backside and she was always having to tug the back of her jacket down) ... she once had occasion to go hands-on with a suspect on a concrete floor, and after the larger chap rolled over on her several times while she was pinned on her back ...

So she shows up to work after some time out for medical reasons, L&I, etc., a few weeks later with a new Miami Classic shoulder rig (which still printed egregiously given her wardrobe choices, but was an improvement).
