Looking for a new rifle

I'm in the market for a new high-power centerfire rifle. I'm specifically looking for outstanding accuracy in the 500-600 meter range. I'm also looking for something that is large enough to be legal to hunt with.

So far I've been led toward the Remington 700 in 30-06 and also the Winchester Super Shadow in 300 WSM. I'm leaning closer to the Winchester, partly for the price, but more for the 300 WSM.

Does anyone have any experience with this new Winchester, or have anything to say about the rifles I'm looking at in general?

Any comments would be most welcome, thank you.

I bought my pet '06 in 1970. So, it's been tweaked a bit and I've worked up good handloads for it and all that stuff. A 26" barrel, by the way.

I went out on my 500-yard range and was having no difficulty in staying around one MOA for "casual shooting" groups. 3x10 44 Mag scope. Nothing special about the loads; I just used the Hornady book max for the 165- and 180-grain Sierra BT bullets.

If you're really wanting to reach on out there, my opinion is that velocity matters, and a longer barrel can make a good bit of difference. After that, it's just tuning the rifle and working up a load that it likes.

My rifle happens to be a Wby Mark V, but I don't really think brand name matters...
