2 candidates running as independents in CA's governor recall election: Arianna Huffington & Gary Coleman. We're gonna end up w/ 400 candidates and a vry diluted voting pool.

But isn't this exactly what many people have been asking for? I can't count all of the people on this board who have wished for more than two parties running during an election. Now that we see what it would really look like, do we really want to go there?

They need to get 65 people to sign their petition and pay $3500 to get in the race. Many of the people that took out the papers will not turn them back in. With that in mind, I really doubt if there will be many more than 20 on the ballot. Even then, how many of them would be reconized by anyone other than the ones that signed their petition. I believe there will only be 5 or 6 truely viable candidates.
I will not be surprised, if the polls show a Republican will replace Davis, 2 weeks or less before the election, Davis resigns and the Lt. Gov. becomes the Governor, making the election moot, and they keep a Democrat Governor.

But if you could count, you'd also remember that they were talking about proportional representation systems . Seriously, in our single-member district system not only are you forced into Tweedledee-Tweedledum "two-party" choices, if you're in the minority you have no vote at all. In Costa Rica, 10% of the voters are Libertarian so 10% of the Congress is Libertarian. Here, Libertarians have no vote... and neither do moderate Republicans if they're gerrymandered into a Democratic district.

I wouldn't be surprised, either, but at least Red Davis would be out of office, and socialist parasites from coast to coast would have learned the free ride isn't always endless.

Can someone verify that this is legally possible? If Grey Davis resigns a week, or even a day before the recall election, does that mean the election is automatically cancelled, and Bustamonte installed? I've seen no reports of this prospect, but would not place the demo's above using such a tactic, if opinion polls showed Arnold was about to win the election.

Now that the recall signatures have been certified, the vote must occur and no dirty tricks can get it stopped. If Davis resigns, the Lt. Gov becomes acting Gov, but then must yield the seat to the winner of the recall election (the question on the ballot of Davis Yes or No becomes moot, but the question of who the successor should be is still valid).

So, you think that only candidates who are running with the support of the two major parties should be the ONLY ones that voters should choose in an election?

I think you're jumping to conclusions here. I predict that the "legitimate" candidates (the ones who are competent & capable--and the Democrats) will EACH receive more votes than the "joke" candidates (porn stars, unfunny comedians, & Green Party members :D ).

Watch & see before you condemn...

I'm not an inmate of PRK so my opinion is just as invalid as anyone else's.

Seems to me regardless of who wins the recall they will ultimately lose the battle to actually fix the problems. While Davis is corrupt (even on the left coast he is legendary) his stupidity would have limitiations. The state legislature bears considerable responsibility in helping create the socialist paradise Californians now enjoy.

Am I wrong in thinkin' the governor is merely part of the problem?
