I went to the gun show today and got some CAVIM .308 ammunition, from 1991.
I paid 31 cents a round, good or bad deal? And is this fine to shoot in a FAL?

I have used '87, '90 and '91 in the M14/M1A1 and use the brass to reload for my HK. 4 reloads on most of it and still looks good. I will take your empty cases, sometimes the rims need a little work after the M14 spits them out.

CAVIM has a bad reputation amongst the HK crowd. Apparently, a black, tarry goo chokes the chamber flutes on a G3 after about 100 rounds.
For that reason, I never tried it in my HK, but the CAVIM that I ran through my FAL seemed to do okay.

Like I said I ran it through my M-14 first and used the brass in my HK. Plus I have a neat kittle tool for cleaning the HK Flutes. On another shoot I watched a guy shoot it in his FNSLR and I picked up 100 cases. It shot OK in my M14 and I shot a 350'ish with it in '00. That was an OK for me. Gas guns blow most of the crud out the front. Have fun.

I shot some that did ok for what it was. However, it was difficult to reload as the brass on what I had was really soft. I reloaded a little of it ONE TIME and then discarded that whole lot of brass.
I would suspect that different 'issues' of it were diffent though.

I ve shot a lot of those in my STG 58 a long time ago and it shoots tight and hot. Problem is dirty and sooty innards after couple of rounds.

I've never had any problem with it, and these days .31 ea ain't bad!
