I was in a shop last weekend and they had a number of Saigas in stock in .223, .410 ,and I think in 7.62x39. The price seemed incredibly reasonable at $169 and they looked like nice rifles. Does anyone own one of these? What are your opinions on the rifle? What other calibers are they chambered in?

I have a 16" carbine in 7.62x39 and I`m very pleased with it. It`s a real,new Russian Ak variant rather than a 3rd world clone or parts gun. The quality is quite good. The trigger is so so but I`ve used worse and accuracy seems slightly above par for an AK. Best of all if you get tired of it as is you can convert it to hi caps/pistol grip etc. fairly cheap. I`d call em a best buy! Marcus

I saw the 410 and it looked really cool. However it was marked $299 on the gunshow table.
Anyone know a dealer around San antonio that stocks these?

I have a Saiga in 223, which I use all of the time. The 223 has a fast barrel twist, and shoots heavy bullets good. I believe that the Saiga is the best rifle deal on the market. I carry mine on the 4 wheeler over ranch country regularly, it is a very dependable rifle. Buy it , you won't be sorry,[check out CDNN }

I thought I had heard once that the Saiga's are built on RPK receivers, like the VEPR. Anybody know?

Nope, the EAA AK Saiga is the AK reciever, made in Russia at the AK plant,with the AK 47's. Not as accurate as the M 16 but has the AK reliablity. A very simple rifle to dis assymble and has a chrome lined barrel. A real bargin.

Where can you get the 223 Saiga mags? Are they the same as the SAR III?

CDNN has mags that vary in price from month to month.They are for the Saiga and not the same as a SAR.

I have been shooting mine with a Kobra. I've been using Barnual ammo from Sportsmans Guide. It groups well and is really a fun gun.
Get one or more and think about a Kobra red dot.

Did any of you convert the Saiga by yourself or did you take it to a gunsmith?
If I get one... I may get two.
