OK, I'll bite. Might as well start the work of decoding.

Not sure if I 100% understand what rifle you are discussing.

Are you talking about a Carl Gustav (sometimes spelled Gustaf) Mauser? Carl Gustav is a manufacturer in Sweden, most famous for the Swedish M1896 and M1938 Mauser (along with the Mauser Oberndorf and Husquvarna manf). They also manufactured the Swedish K SMG if I recall correctly.

Is this the rifle to which you're referring? If so, do you believe that it is now chambered in 7.92x57mm?

Pictures, markings, better descriptions would help. You haven't given us much to go on.

It could also be a Swedish sporting rifle chambered in 8x54 Krag, made at the same factory.

the swedes were(are) absolutely sick about the accuracy of their rifles, and marked them as to the wear on their bores, usually on the side of the stock, in a little coin with a bunch of little letters/numbers in it. Even a stock marked with their number 3, is better than most other peeps bbls , right now!!!!
They were also made in a variety of cals, mostly a 6.5, 7.5, and 8mm. Most guys like the 6.5 the best, as it is usually super accurate, and dudes will do long range shoots with this action/bbl, and their own other customized stuff around it. Allthough even a bone stock 6.5 will shoot long range very accurately, and will do 1000 yd shots if you want.
About 5 years ago Kimber of Oregon, bought a bunch of 6.5's and sporterized them, doing a kick!@#s job, and they came with black synth stocks. not only are they accurate, but make a great hunting rifle, with scope mounts allready added up top, and can usually be had for about 400 bucks.

All I can contribute is that 8mm Mauser was the Mauser Kar98k loading. It is pretty similar to .30-06. It's a good round.

I see nothing wrong with that rifle. If you can afford to put that kind of money forward for it and the ammunition it will consume, go for it...
