Would like some thoughts

Couple months ago, I found a Smith 10-5 (SN unknown) at a local shop, in pretty decent shape, good lockup and both DA & SA trigger. Sticker was $250. Stopped by the other day and the same Smith is still there. It's been on their shelf since before Thanksgiving.
Last summeri, I had ordered a Rock Island 1911 Tactical. Sold it right after Christmas - fellow offered me more than I paid for it, so I took the deal. Now, I'm kicking myself for selling it.
Here's my connundrum. I've found myself really enjoying revolvers and think the Smith would be a nice addition to my safe. I reload .38s, so I'm set for ammo.
But I'm finding that I really miss my 1911. Yeah, I made a little on it, but I reinvested the $$ elsewhere. I see Tacticals are still available for <$400. I do not have reloading stuff yet for .45s.
I have $200 in my wallet from my birthday, and I am expecting another $150 in the next couple days from an extra writing job. I'll have in-hand about $400. In my position, would you consider the Smith (offer $200 cash OTD) or the RI 1911? I like 'em both, but both isn't an option. In fact, this will probably be my last purchase for a long while. I have the .22s I want/need, and have my 9mm covered, so this is simply an A or B choice.
Thanks,
Q

just an opinion. Its hard to beat a good 38 special revolver for shooting enjoyment. Since you are already set up to reload for it,you might consider making that offer for the revolver. take care.

I would get the Smith.
They do not make them like they used to, and there will not be anymore made like that one.
.38spl is a old, proven ctg, that can be loaded up or down and with various bullet configs, you know this, you are already set up for the ctg.
The economy is nuts, it is a election year, and I am old school, meaning have simple tools that have stood the test of time that work in case matters get really bonkers.
One has noticed a lot of folks that used to look down their nose at .22 rimfire, now buying, shooting and understanding why the "lowly" .22 has been able to stand the test of time as well.
1911s:
Being totally honest, I really prefer the old traditional Gov't Model of 1911, and other more simple, basic and true to that design, over 'clones'.
Gun fit for me, includes 1911, and K frames.
My thinking is , one cannot get another old Revolver, like Smith, or Colt since these are not made anymore.
Nor can I get a gunsmith to build me one.
I can wait or hope to find a old Gov't model of 1911, or get a Colt, or Springfield GI , or I can get a Caspian frame and slide and have one built near to / more akin to GI Spec.
I was born in the mid 50's, and mentors and elders had been doing some things as they had been in places and seen things restricted and banned.
GCA of '68 was coming up, and these same "stirrings" got a stirred up even more, and by new folks.
If...If, government ever bans "auto repeating" , or "high round count guns" and some other thoughts.
"One would be wise to have a .38spl revolver, .22 revolver, single shot .22 rifle, and single shot shotgun..."
They had some other thoughts, and my take on matters comes from the era I was born in, mentors and elders and what I have experienced and observed myself so far.
I'd get the revolver...

You can ALWAYS find a fitting 1911.

I have three Mod 10 S&Ws...Love them. Good house guns and good for (if you reload) plinking and target practice. Recoil is even managable for women...

The key is that you are already set up to load for the .38. Add to that the fact that everybody should have at least one K-frame S&W. Then factor in the facts that they are fun and easy to shoot well. So it's an easy choice. Go for the M-10.
Of course, everybody should have at least one 1911 too, but it can wait until finances improve.

I got to agree with my old friends capbuster and sm (Steve)~!
Get the S&W model 10-5; you won't be disappointed, and are already
set up to reload. Finding useable .38 brass should not be a problem;
and good brass in this caliber can be used over and over~! ;) :D

Can't beat a good model 10. If I had the cash to get another tomorrow, you bet I would. Or a K22, that's a sweet piece too.
