I am looking for a SHTF autoloader - any opinions on gas operated vs recoil? I am also looking at a Franchi Law 12.

Thanks

I have owned Benelli's for years and never had an issue with one. In my humble opinion its the best semi-auto shotgun I have ever owned.

The FN SLP is basically the same as a Win SX2. When set up in a similar format, the SX2 is heavier and approx 1 "shell-length" longer. The SX2 has less recoil than the Benelli, in part due to gas operation and in part due to the extra weight.

I was talked into getting a Benelli. I LOVE it. I have always used Remington's since I was a kid and was going in to buy another. The guy at the gunshop talked me into the Benelli and even though it is recoil operated with the comfort stock or whatever Benelli calls it I think it feels like it even recoils less. The benelli is also easier to break down and clean.
I have a Browning and 3 remingtons along with the Benelli. The other 4 are just safe queens now.

i handled serveral friend's Benellis before deciding on the FN SLP.

i found they are just as fast and just feel more comfortable with gas operation

I love my Benelli M2. The inertia driven system and the soft stock make heavy loads managable and hardly needs cleaning. Make sure you buy the barrel length you want because it isn't easy or cheap to change things around.

I wasn't sold on Benelli's till the first time I saw one broken down for cleaning.

I now own a SBE and a M1S90.

I'll never go back to a gas gun.
