Just picked it up earlier today. This is my first bolt action, I'm usually an AR type of guy. I did a little checking into it before and after and it seems I made a good choice. I'll be taking it out this weekend to see what I can do with it.

It came with a Choate stock and 20" bull barrel with 1/9 twist. Its .223 btw. I added a Simmons 3-9x40 scope with Weaver bases and rings, flip up covers and a Harris bipod. The new Accu-trigger is awesome too!

One question though....How many rounds does this thing actually hold? The website says 4 + 1 in the chamber. But I can get 5 in it easily and a 6th one but then there is no spring slack left. I assume I should stick with the 4? I just figured it would hold one more over the .308 version since the cartridge is smaller.

And lastly, for those of you that have a Savage, let me know what you think of it.

Thanks!:D

I really like the simple adjustment of the trigger on my LE2B. I do wish the trigger feel of the blade wasn't so much Glock-like. Cranked mine down to ~1.75#.

Having a little trouble finding Weaver-type bases for mine. I prefer the more solid Leupold QRW-like as opposed to the Weaver-like ones with that center channel. Apparently the newer 10FPs, at least the LEs have a round rear receiver now as compared to the flat ones of the older models. (My LE2B has a round rear.) Went looking for QRWs last Sunday and they were for the older models with flat rears at the places I went to. Luckily, I read a post here on THR concerning the change in profile and saved myself the trouble and expense of buying bases that wouldn't fit.

My opinion is, load it up with as many as it can take without hindering the bolt movement. Just don't keep the mag loaded for a long time.

hksw,

I did a search earlier today and someone posted that the Weaver 46 front base is to be used on the rear also of these newer model Savages with rounded rear receivers. I went to my first gun store this morning and found them. The scope was mounted less than two hours later with NO problems. Hopefully there won't be any in the future either.....cause I also saw where alot of people were having trouble getting proper bases. I got lucky having this place to look before I went through all that trouble.

this is a trait of the New Accu-trigger equipped guns. since the Accu-Trigger requires a redesigned receiver, it seems they decided to skip the milling operation to make the rear receiver area flat.

The bug must be spreading, I just picked up my 10fp-le1a in .308 this afternoon. I mounted a Redfield tracker se 6x18x40 on weaver rings and added a Harris bipod. This thing is serious medicine. Can't wait to warm it up properly.

I guess I'll just have to get the Weavers for the time being until Leupold catches up with updating their Accu-10 bases.

My interest has been peaked by the 10FP also. What is the going price on one in .308? This might be my next rifle.

Savage 10FP-LE2 in 308, 26" barrel w/ choate stock, Leupold VariX III scope and Harris bipod...

LOVE IT!

I too am a first time bolt-action buyer. Thanks to the guidance I got on this board, I am very
happy with my purchase.

I did have the above mentioned issues with my scope mount. I stripped the threads
in the receiver installing the wrong base. My shop retapped it for me - and I'm good 2 go!

Meathammer - my price was about $550 with the choate stock and nothing else.
