I have both HKS-27 and Safariland speedloaders for 357 magnum cartridges. Both used with S&W 686. The Safariland works great. My problem is with the HKS-27. It's 0.100 inch larger in diameter than the Safariland and seems to hang up on the thumbpiece.
The diameter of the HKS-27, purchaced in 1992, is 1.620 inches. I'm wondering if newer HKS-27 speedloaders are smaller in diameter. Any one got one to measure? The Safariland diameter is 1.520 inches

You got the wrong ones!
HKS-27 speed-loaders are for the larger S&W N-Frame Model 27 & 28, and Ruger RedHawk guns.
You need the 586-A for a six-shot L-Frame 686.

:)Thanks for the right answer! The funny part of this story is that I have a S&W 27. You've forced me to remember that I bought the HKS 27's when I bought the S&W 27! I seldom shoot the 27 but frequently shoot the 686.
I'm ordering a couple of HKS 585A's
Thanks, Fourbits
