Is 489.00+tax a good price for this?

I am on the edge of buying a 6.5 inch stainless Ruger blackhawk with rosewood grips to get back into reloading. 489.00+tax is the best my local gun shop can do for one NIB. Is this a reasonable price to pay?

Thanks, Flip.

You need a blackhawk just so you can reload? Now that's a justification if I've ever heard one - you know you can just reload them and have someone else shoot them for you...;)

That price sounds about right. Last year we were shopping for one as a gift and it was a little less than that - but that was a year ago and inflation has put a jump in things since then.

Seems high to me. It would be pretty good out the door, though.

It's a .357 magnum. I just dug out all of my reloading supplies and am going to set it up tomarrow.

I think our best prices last year were $459 at a dealer, + tax. Again, that was a year ago and it was for a blue .357. Since MSRP on Blue is $65 or more for blue vs. SS, I'm not sure if that's as sweet a deal as it sounds. But it seems the street prices of blue vs. SS is about the same.

A place I go to get "street" prices is Bud's Gun Shop. They quote "delivered" prices, which is what you can pay plus an FFL transfer fee in your area. I am always willing to pay a little more to support a local dealer. We need to. Here's is there Ruger SA page as of today:

Long story, we ended up not buying a new one, because we walked into a local gun show and a guy had an ANIB one, with ALL papers, wrappers, inserts, etc., including the original brown cardboard shipping box the red box went into. All ANIB, and it was a 1973 "1st Year" New Model Blackhawk, .in .357 and 6.5" (what we wanted - this was a gift, and the recipient was quite clear in preferences for a New Model, 6.5", in blue). Stunned, we quickly handed over $375 cash OTD. The box had the original 1973 dealer sticker price on it, $101.10.

That isn't too bad a price I don't think. Yes, you can probably cast about all over the internet and find one for $30 less including the transfer fee.
A New Model Blackhawk was my first very own new magnum revolver. $87.00 at Best Products in Hampton Virginia, in 1973. I still have it, although my wife says that is her gun.

Bud's usually has pretty darn competitive prices when comes to buying online, now throw in the FFL fee on your end and you might as well just buy it locally.
