:cool:for gifts or loaners or whatever, Check out the Rough Rider series at Smokey Mountain Knife Works.I ordered 3 Barlow,Sleeveboard Whittler and a small quill knife. Fit and finish are really good, came super sharp out of the box. I will be rotating these in and out of my EDC. Thanks for looking:cool:

I have two of Rough Rider's gunstock series, a stockman and a congress. I have carried the stockman alot as a loaner/who cares if it gets confiscated knife. While they are great values, and the stainless is worlds better than the crap put out by Frost and others(though I heard Frost has started distributing a decent line of cheap slipjoints), I prefer carbon steel, especially on cheap knifes, so I don't see it replacing my Case CV or Opinel anytime soon.

They are an excellent value (in spite of being made in the PRC) and make good entry knives for folks.

you might also want to check at wally world. sporting goods. black plastic handle, stainless 3" lockblade, 94 cents! i think i have bought 6 or 7 of them. i have them stashed all over the place. if i break or bend one, i'll just pitch it and get another!

Have a couple of Rough Riders myself!

Got them on eBay for $6.51-ea. delivered. Couldn't resist. Bone scales, decent blades, easy to sharpen. They hold up to normal slippie usage like opening boxes, cutting string, the odd hangnail, etc.

Regarding the company out of FL, and now these knives, I think I'm gonna relate anything that is:

1) Inexpensive
2) Old-timey in style
3) Gets the job done

...as a "Rough Rider." :)

cheap knives are exactly what they are, cheap knives

its just me but i usually carry at least 3 knives

-kershaw folder, honed to a keen edge, for cutting only

-an additional folding knife with a locking blade, also with a good edge, for loaning to other people, or in case i loose my other good knife...

-a cheap knife, for prying, scraping, and everything else, for anytime i dont want to mess up a good knife...
