What length gun? I see 4", 4.25", and 5" on your poll.
Of the ones listed, I've been pretty impressed with the S&W 1911s lately. Kimber and Springfield are also top notch, all three are great pistols.
Oh yeah, price range?

Dan Wesson CBOB 4.25"
I have Kimbers and Dan Wessons and the Dan Wesson is a MUCH better built gun. The bobtail also makes it nice if you ever plan to carry it.

I like the full size platform, and I like SA.

I voted S&W because I have two and love them - though both of mine are full-size, all steel, I hear great things about the scandium models.

my first choice would be the sa, i have a sa 1911 and it is great and they are a great company and they know how to take care of thier customers.
my next choice would be the para, they are reliable, accurate guns. para has been inovtive in the 1911 field and they make great 1911's.

I would say go for an STI brand... they make one "low" end gun the Spartan and the rest are comp level guns.

I'd still go Colt :D But if pressed and I picked off your list, I'd probably get the SA Mil Spec

Check out the Springfield loaded series. I love my Loaded champ. Beautiful, Accurate, night sites, beaver tail safety, easy to clean. Chicks dig it.

So you want a 4"-4.5" 1911 in .45ACP but there are a couple more questions you need to answer.
Single stack or high capacity? Single action or light double? What finish? Any certain feature built in, like night sights etc?

I want single stack..single action. and night sights other than that i really do not care for all the fancy bells and whisltes.
but night sights are not a must have..

Though Colt was not one of the options that would be my vote.

For a full size, STI Spartan for under $600 IMO is the best buy. It outpaces many higher end pistols.

I voted for S&W but would also be okay with the SA Mil-Spec. I have a couple of those and have been very happy with them. They are not the most accurate, but have proven 100% reliable.

Id go with a SA but not the mil-spec. Id go with one of these if not getting a full size.

I own 2 of the pistols in your poll, the SA Mil-Spec and the Kimber PCII. I bought the Mil-Spec first and love it, but I wanted something lighter to carry mainly when I was in the woods hanging stands for bow season. I bought the Kimber for that purpose. I shoot the Kimber almost as well as the Mil-Spec, and without a doubt, it is my choice for CC. Huge difference with the shorter barrel and lighter weight. Bottom line, whichever you decide on, you will probably want another later. Both are fine pistols worth the money IMO.
Here is my mil-spec, don't have a pic of the Kimber hosted

Darthbauer.
Do you personally have the OD Champion?
If so, how realiable is it? I had a Champion a few years back and it was a jamming machine. I couldnt even get through 1 mag without numerous malfunctions.
but i do like the 4 inch OD Champion..
thanks,
