Correct flash hider for an RPK?

As I mentioned in the RPK thread, I got one of those new RPKs, stripped it down over last weekend and redid the wood and metal. it turned out pretty nice IMO.

It has a pinned on muzzle nut that I am planning to dremel off (only one of the notches is welded in one spot, so it should be easy) but I can't find a picture of any RPKs with muzzle brakes or flash hiders. Did the soviets just never make any for the use of the RPK?

I also swapped out the yucky stock pistol grip. I know the gods of historical accuracy will **** on me for that, but I can't stand the tiny little grips that come standard on soviet guns. The Soviet New Man must have had tiny little girl hands.

Original RPK automatic rifles never had any type of muzzle brake or flash hider (see http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg15-e.htm ; the last picture is the new, post-2000 production gun that has a flash hider)

You have to had a thin grip, coz' sometimes (and maybe quite often) you'd have to use thick (and i mean THICK) winter mittens or gloves. At least if you're in Soviet army, you see ;)

I noted in the past that they must have had 8 year olds designing the buttstock. (Yeah yeah max, heavy thick coats.)

As max says, a barrel nut would be authentic. Later variants seem to sport these:

(I think they're ugly)

We've installed AK74 brakes or KA-1230's on 'em. But like the other said, I don't believe they ran a brake originally.

Hey Lawbot,

Do us a favor and post a range-report of that AES-10B. Word has it they are pretty-much the closest thing to an RPK most of us are ever going to handle: heavy barrel, adjustable sight, 1.5 mm bulged receiver, etc.
