Kimber Custom II ejector finish problem??

Hi everyone, I was just checking my gun before going to the range, when I noticed that the finish on the ejector seemed to be flaking off in small pieces, and when I rubbed over it with a piece of paper towel, it kinda rubbed off, leaving bare metal. :what:

This is really stumping me, because I used the same solvent(Breakfree CLP[spray version]) on the whole gun, but only the ejector is having this problem, the rest of the gun's finish is still pristine.

Any ideas as to what to do, or what the problem is?

That is a spray on finish on the ejector and yes it will flake off. You really only have a few options. Send it back to the factory, take it in to your local gunsmith, or make sure you keep extra oil on just the ejector. Extra oil would be a temporary fix but I would take it in somewhere when you can. A good natured gunsmith would toss the ejector by itself in the bluing tanks when he is doing other bluing for little or nothing.

Thanks for the help, Smithy; do you think a cold blue would work?

Hmmm, I think I'm gonna wait before I do anything as drastic as sending it back to the factory; I mean, they would just replace it with another spray on finish part, right?

The finish is starting to wear a little on the safety, also, but that doesn't bother me that much.

I'd just keep some oil on there so it doesn't rust then.

Yeah, the finish seems to be the only downside to this pistol.

The thumb safety's finish is also starting to wear off, and this is after only a couple months of ownership where I only handle it on the weekends.

It isn't the same type of wear as the ejector, it's just like accelerated normal wear.

I'm new to pistols and what not, so I'm not really sure if it's normal(although I have my doubts.)

and to top it all off, my camera just broke, so I can't post pictures.
