i saw an american arms, 28 gauge, exposed hammer, sxs in a pawn shop. the gun had been refinished, so no collectors interest. just handling the gun i was immediately impressed with the feel of the gun, and the bore was in excellent condition, mirrorlike. i would guess this shotgun was made in the teens or twenties at the latest, it is not damascus.
Question: would this gun stand up to modern 28 gauge ammo? i have a lifetime supply of AA 28ga 7.5s.

American Arms or American Gun Co.
I don't think American Arms was around that far back, more like 20 years give or take. The company in Kansas City imported a lot of Spanish and Italian guns, but all the ones I've ever seen were hammerless.
American Gun Co. was one of the names used by Crescent on their hardware store guns, so the vintage would be correct.
IOW, I don't know.
I'd like to have a lifetime supply of 28 ga. ammo to go with my gun.

johnBT i will do a search on american gun company, this may explain why i could not find any info for this shotgun. i bought my supply of 28 ammo one or two boxes at a time, so it was relatively painless. everytime i went into walmart i picked up a box or two at 6 bucks a box, i go to walmart alot. pretty soon i realized i could not fit any more ammo behind my truck seat, i have never counted it but it is a lot. my wife enjoys reloading on my mec 600 jr and when i give her empties she has them loaded before the next hunt.
