Browning BL-22 Question

I grew up shooting a pair of BL-22's my cousins had. Every time I'd visit them in Utah, we'd hop on the motorcycle, cross the canal, and head to the foot hills to shoot what ever moved. I've got great memories of these rifles and lately, I've been looking at them again with an eye to buying one. One thing I've noticed is the filler plate around the trigger mechanism and lever seems to be plastic on the new rifles I've looked at.

Has this always been the case or is this and "improvement" made to new guns to keep the cost down? I'd feel better with an all steel rifle, but if it's been this way and I just haven't noticed, I'd like to know.

Thanks,

USP,

I went to the safe and checked. I'm not sure how old my BL-22 is - 10-12 years or so. It's the plain jane version.

It does indeed have a plastic filler plate, some kind of hard texturized plastic.

For me, a more important question is whether you've grown substantially since the last time you shot with your cousins. A lot of men think the BL-22 is too small and toy-like. Mine went to the girlfriend & I got a Marlin 39M instead. Other dudes think the BL-22 is fine for them.

If you have an itch for a BL-22 and you're like me, you're not going to be truly satisfied until you have one, a little plastic plate notwithstanding....

Mine has a very hard filler plate made of textured plastic, like Slugless says. It's nothing to worry about. One of the best .22s out there!

I missed the replies to this. Just wanted to say thanks. I shouldered one again the other day. I like the short length of pull. If I can fight the itch I've got for a new mountain bike, I might put one of these in the safe soon.
