Hey guys,

I'm taking my 1866 down for a cleaning (first time) and the lever screw is stuck. It turned to the point where the opposing side plate came off, but now it just turns in place.

It looks as though the threads on the screw aren't catching the grooves on the frame. What can I do fix this?

I got it moving a bit, but now it seems to be stuck at the threads in the hole that goes through the lever.

This is the screw from hell.

What's an 1866? I've heard of a 1040 and seen people badly screwed by them, even heard someone who referred to it as "the screw from hell," but I doubt if you're talking about the IRS.

If you're talking about a firearm and are interested in something related to gunsmithing or repairs, why not post your message in that section and identify whatever it is you're talking about.

I got the screw out of my Uberti 1866 rifle

I believe the screw you are refering too is threaded only on the end section and trying to screw it out of the rest of the gun will not work. (the side plate had the threads for the screw ) A small punch and a gental hand with a little hammer will remove it the rest of the way out.

Do you think that Mike Huckabee stands a better chance than Ron Paul to become the Republican candidate this year? I was thinking of trying to get gun owners to support Wendell Wilkie instead. Someone reminded me that Wilkie died in October of 1944 but I don't think that would matter.
