so how do you get the brass marks off the receiver
from the spent cases which strike it as they are ejected?

Black magic marker or flat black spray paint. :)

Any good bore solvent with ammonia will work. Try Butch's Bore Shine; if that doesn't work, try Sweet's.

I left them on the one i had. it gives the weapon character.

You want to use a non-abrasive bore solvent. I use the tetra-gun amonia baset stuff. Works well, just have patience and let the amonia do it's work. Use it sparingly as you don't want to hurt the finish.

I personally don't mind the marks, but if it really bugs you just stick a small peice of electrical tape on the deflector the next time you go out shooting.
