Hi, folks. I was browsing this Web site (http://www.micksguns.com), and listed under Shotguns, I found these photographs of what is described as:
Ostrender, rare American patent, four shot pump action side by side ! made in San
I'm assuming that the "San..." must refer to San Francisco (any other likely San candidates out there?). Anyway, here are the photographs:

I've never heard of, let alone seen, a "four shot pump action side by side"!!! Does anybody know anything about such a firearm? Sounds fascinating!

I have no idea, sounds interesting.
I perused the site, don't know the current the ROE, doesn't matter - I think I blew a life's earnings though.
Some really neat stuff...now if the firearms could only talk...

Preacherman:
N.R. Davis produced a similar shotgun. I have sent the Davis Story and a photo by separate email. They were too large to be put on THR

There is an old cartoon that has one . It's great laughs to see it used . But a real one ? It's for those that have the bolt action double rifle. There was a posting on another forum showing photos of the rifle , more recently made. A machinists nightmare for sure.

Never heard of a SxS pump before, looks interesting. Charles Lancaster did make a 4-barrel shotgun. It had a single trigger that rotated a ratchet, firing each barrel in succession.
I wonder if that would make it a SxOxSxO, SxSxSxS or SxS/SxS.

i remember there being a post over on the SASSwire (forum owned/run by and for teh members of the Single Action Shootist Scociety CAS orginization) someone had discovered one in their attic or some such and wanted to know if it was leagal for use in matches!! :D  :what: gerneral consenssus was "maybe locally but not above that"
best i can remember the thing works by loading two rounds in the chambers, then two reserve rounds go into two storage cavities in i beleive the forearm. you fire the first two rounds, activate a catch and open the action, the spent rounds are ejected and the reserve rounds are lifted allowing them to be chambered as the action is closed.
i also beleive that the design in question fell prey to "better, cheaper alternatives, with higher round counts" ie i seem to remember mention of this design hitting the market abot the time the Winchester and spencer pump shotguns came out. heck even the Burgess (now THAT was a neat pump design) would have our classed a 4-shot SxS
