500 magnum range report

Well, after waiting a long 3 months to get it, I finally got my Smith and Wesson performance center 500 magnum. It's a beauty, and I've got the pictures to prove it. I took it out Friday afternoon with a couple of friends to test fire it. I only had the hornady 350 grain hollow point, that the box clocks at about 1900fps. I was hoping to get the 440 grain load, but the store didn't have any that day. Anyway, the gun's fit and finish are really nice, the bc gap is very small and the lockup is very tight. The single action trigger pull is very light. Scary light! Recoil isn't nearly as bad as we expected, but it is definitely there. The gun's 82oz weight helps a great deal. So do shooting gloves. I didn't have enough ammo to properly sight the gun in, but it was hitting pretty much on target. All around, I very happy with the gun and glad I waited for the performance center model I wanted rather than settling for a stock model. Hope you like the pics.

Very Nice firearm. I have to say I understand what you mean about liking the fit-finish of the PC models; I enjoy my PC x-frame immensely.
Sounds like yours has awesome ballistics!!! :D

What are these things going for? Are they easy to find? What's the used gun market like for them?
Just curious. Looks like a huge gun.
Can you get them with 2-inch barrels? :D

Congrats on the new purchase! Looks very nice and it's plain to see that you're happy with it, which is the whole point of things, right?
They are nice and itty-bitty. Only problem is that once there's ONE in the safe...it seems to open the door in the middle of the night so others of the same ilk can sneak in.
Okay, so the BFR .45-70 isn't a Performance Center S&W, but it looks at home alongside the X-frames.

Honesty compels me to add this: the .500 and the .460 have been sent back once apiece. The .500 developed a trigger issue in SA mode after less than 100 rds and the .460 is in the serial # range covered by the recall. Both times, it didn't cost me a cent for shipping or work done and they've been just fine since their respective trips back home.

The gun cost me about $1100.00 before tax. I'm not certain just what changes the performance center does, but I do know that performance center guns are supposed to have better triggers and no MIM parts.
