96.97 posts per day, #5 on the top 10 list, over 100 posts total and you registered the same time I did! Did you have a lot of pent up verbiage you didn't want to waste on TFL in its' declining days or is the conversation here just that stimulating?! :D ;) :p

Dang, I'm not even in the top 10...

Gotta give the old fart, er... CR Sam, a head start, I guess.

He's old and slow. :D

December 25, 2002, 02:56 PM
Old, maybe.

But not a bit slow.

December 25, 2002, 03:02 PM
pax, you did it again with your sig! :D

2nd Amendment, I'm just very glad to be here, that THR is smokin' and blowin', and that so many friends from TFL are here runnin' the place, postin' and grinnin'...! :D

Alas, I expect trolls, and for things to settle down to a lowered state of energy -- well maybe for me anyway.

You kids just don't understand how to enjoy history in the making, I guess! :D

December 25, 2002, 03:04 PM
You're right, Mike.

I stand corrected.

Truth is, though, C.R. Sam is one of the youngest old guys I know.

I just noticed that the sig line, when altered, remains the same in previous posts? Is that a new feature with this software or what? UBB and others that I've worked with before all updated the sig line in older posts when you change it. Hmmmm

December 25, 2002, 03:24 PM

You logged on one just before me and your pulling away.. :D

December 25, 2002, 03:40 PM
Gee, I should have skipped the family Christmas get-together last night and just spent the time here upping my post count! ;)

Blackhawk's bill for these first two days is going to be hefty..:D

December 25, 2002, 05:17 PM
Leave him alone, guys...he's just continuing with the fine precedent he set at TFL (averaging 12.19 posts a day).

Come on, BH, unplug! It's Christmas...your family's going to be worried.

December 25, 2002, 05:22 PM
Not to worry, guys... if he starts getting too close to Sam or myself, the two of us, being moderators, will simply start deleting some of his posts!!! :D :D :D

Always learn from BH

About the 'charges per post'...understand Preacherman has a coffer set up just for us ...parish members don't know what the "THR" means...Preacherman just grins when coins tickle the coffer.;)

If my wife's already grousing at me for spending too much time here at THR, (she was tickled that TFL was going inactive) how do you get away with it? :D

He doesn't tell the wife.;) :D

We'll know when she finds out, the post will simply state:

"Blackhawk down!";) :D

I couldn't help it.:D

Blades, I'm gonna get you for that one... :D

December 25, 2002, 10:29 PM

If my wife's already grousing at me for spending too much time here at THR, (she was tickled that TFL was going inactive) how do you get away with it? Would you believe that she caters to my every whim and spoils me rotten?

No? Then would you believe that she wants me to enjoy any and everything I want to do?

No? Well, would you believe she thinks I'm working on a top secret laser powered cheese spreader for the French Air Force?

No? Then what would you believe?

(Psst, 99.... Can you help me out here? 99...? )

December 25, 2002, 11:33 PM
Give BH a break. He is being a productive member of society.:D

December 25, 2002, 11:38 PM

Blackhawk, don't worry. Before long you will be in the 500's or more and I'll still be trudging along in the 100 range.. ;)

Actually the room's so small, our chairs bump now and then, so email would be a bit over the top.... :D

December 26, 2002, 12:57 AM
Schuey, why would I worry? The number of posts means nothing.

They're just like spent brass on the ground. Each one was fun. If it wasn't, then it's time to pack it in.

I'm having fun, especially yesterday and today on THR! :D

Sometime since 1:48 Preacherman overtook C.R. as well, dropping C.R. to the ignoble position of third place. The race remains tight, though...

I feel like a sports commentator.

Some of us have to work over Christmas... I got only 4 hours sleep on Christmas Eve, what with late services at the prison and then Midnight Mass. Up at 5.30 to do early services at the prison, drive to a church an hour away to do morning service, then back to the prison to help supervise main-line and do Christmassy stuff with the inmates. Got home mid-afternoon and went to bed, sleeping till about 8 p.m., then climbed online here to check out the progress. Does that answer your question? :D

BTW, I'm amazed at how fast we're growing. We launched a little after 12 noon on Christmas Eve with 94 registered users (the startup staff and 30 or 40 who sneaked in under the wire :D ). As of 9 a.m. this morning, we were at 1,052 users. This means that in 45 hours, we gained 958 users, or an average of one new user every 2 minutes 48 seconds. That's moving some...! :D :D :D

SO glad to see all of you here... even if you do overtake my post count! :D (Can you tell I'm happy?)

December 26, 2002, 11:10 AM
Preacherman,As at 1.48 a.m. Central time, Blackhawk has passed C.R. Sam in post count! That is ridiculous!

I hereby make the following proposal through you as a moderator, honorary Chaplain, all around good guy, and insomniac:

Whereas The Firing Line (hereinafter "TFL") is an Internet based virtual forum where like minded individuals gather to exchange ideas and fellowship concerning their interest in firearms and the sport of shooting; and

Whereas The High Road (hereinafter "THR") is a new Internet based virtual forum patterned after TFL; and

Whereas TFL is not going to be accepting new posts from its members after 2002; and

Whereas THR was founded and organized as a direct result of TFL's cessation announcement and with the cooperation and involvement of several of TFL's moderators and administrators; and

Whereas THR is the de facto successor to TFL; and

Whereas the number of "posts" made by each member of both THR and TFL is recorded and displayed on every screen where a member's forum name is displayed; and

Whereas a member's number of posts apparently has some intrinsic value to the forum members; and

Whereas several members of TFL have migrated to THR with the same user names and online identities; and

Whereas THR, as a discrete operation, is not actually the successor to TFL; now

BE IT RESOLVED that after TFL ceases accepting new posts from its members that THR will endeavor to add the number of posts a THR member accumulated on TFL to that member's record showing the member's number of posts on THR; and

FURTHER, that this resolution will apply only to TFL members who join THR on or earlier than January 31, 2003.

December 26, 2002, 11:21 AM
Sorry, Blackhawk, but AFAIK the forum software doesn't allow us to "adjust" post counts. We'll just have to let new members accumulate from 0! However, if you want to put in your SIG line the number of TFL posts you ended up with, the rest of us can do a quick addition to find out relative standings... :D

December 26, 2002, 11:33 AM
Actually, it does. The vBulletin software runs on MySQL. All that's necessary is to write a query template than inputs the THR member's user name or record ID along with the TFL member count to be added. When the query is executed, the TFL number will be added to the THR count in the "Posts" field.

Since the TFL information can be drawn down automatically via HTML into a separate SQL database, the routine can be made to be essentially painless for the minimal human intervention required. It would even be easier if Rich allowed access to the TFL database, but I wouldn't count on that.

It's REALLY elementary for any SQL programmer. :D

OK, Blackhawk: I'll direct the attention of our systems guys to your posts, and put it up to Oleg for his decision.

2nd Amendment
December 26, 2002, 11:58 AM
Yep, pretty much any aspect of this software can be altered, if you have someone willing to put in the time to create the hacks or install existing ones AND work out the unexpected bugs that always show up.

Personally I like the idea of starting over. Post count really isn't a big deal, just one of those little curiosities on the side that's fun to mess around with and give someone else a hard time about, either because they spend so much or so little time here. For anyone who really wants to get serious about it adding their TFL count(and someone has their TFL member number as well, I noticed) in the sig line should be gobs of plenty.
