Besides Tromix? I emailed Tony to ask about wait list times, and he said he's got over 500 orders backed up and isn't taking any more right now.

Any other good Saiga smiths out there?

Red Jacket is about a 4 to 6 month wait but they do great work and use Tromix parts.

We do Saiga conversions at my shop. PM me is you want contact info (they may not like it if I give it here directly). We only have about a 2 to 3 week turn around time. Great workmanship and Tromex parts. Like I said earlier PM me if you would like contact info and more details. :D

Can you give a ballpark figure?

I know Tony is the best at what he does. And just about a 1 1/2 hr drive down the road. That being said I am closer to the firing line. If I get some spare time I'll try and run over that way and see what they charge for a conversion. They are into manufacturing now and have shut down their range. It was the closest indoor range to me. Let me have a week or two as my schedule is pretty tight right now.

Like FBMG Smithy said, we're doing our own now. Turn around time is a few weeks. Prices start in the low $300s on up, depending on what kind of parts you want us to use.

Oh ho ho ho.

Larry, you evil, evil man. Separating me from my moolah like this.

Do you have a page where youlay out costs and options? I need to get my S-12 converted, and Rumore's backlog has been a convenient excuse for putting it off...

Bah! "Call". How late 1800s. ;)

I PMed Larry, and I'll forward the PM to you. Easier that way.

Thanks,

Mike

Cor, new webpage is coming soon. The old one is coming down (because it sucks, yep, already aware) so I'm not going to be updating anything on it. (not that I did a very good job of that before, yes, I know, quit picking on me).

Is doing it yourself out of the question?

The new Surefire and Master Molder mags obviate the need for a bullet guide.

Not if you know what you're doing. If you dont you can destroy the gun.

I am completely unashamed to say that I do NOT know what I am doing, and I'm unwilling to learn on my rather expensive S12.

I'd love to learn, but self-taught ain't the way to go on this particular job.

Well, gentlemen, I was addressing the OP, not you guys who make money providing this service.

I convert Saigas, too, and see no problem with folks doing it on their own.

There is absolutely no way to screw up a basic non-bullet-guide Saiga conversion unless you try really really hard to do so.

Do you have any saiga 12s in stock at FBMG right now?

Negative. I wish we did. I've got like 50 on back order. Popular gun, that the Russians send, once in awhile.

Lots of people have done the conversion themselves. But depending on how you do it, you can screw it up. Go slow, and do your research first.

As for the non-bullet guide conversions, just my personal opinion, but I would prefer to install a $20 part in my gun, that allows me to use millions of cheap magazines, than buy a bunch of expensive magazines. (I'm talking about 7.62x39) On the .308, that's not an option, then you've got a couple of mags that will work. (we make a 20 rounder, and another company makes a 25).
