Lots of Choices...Help Me Decide

I'm looking for a shotgun that will fit my needs. I'm looking for a HD shotgun that will also allow me to plink and just have fun with. It also has to take 2 3/4" and 3" shells. I'm guessing 12 ga would be my best bet, but I would like to shoot all day so 20 ga may be easier on the body. They all are reliable, some more than others, but I plan on keeping them extremely clean and well lubed so I don't think that will be an issue. What I really want is a buttery smooth action. Not a notchy feeling. I want a slick and smooth feeling. I am trying to stay near the $200 range maybe a littler more. The shotguns I'm looking at are the following:

-Maverick Arms 88
-New England Firearms Pardner
-Norinco Model 982
-Mossberg 500

Anyone have any input on the 12 or 20 ga choice? What about the actual shotgun choice?

Mossberg 500, 20 or 12 depends on you.

Mossberg 500...A quality firearm at a good price...I paid $209.95 NIB for mine.

The Mossberg 500 would be my choice of those listed. I currently have two, one with an 18.5" slug barrel and another with 22" rifled barrel. I have spare bird barrels for both. They are sturdy, smooth, and North American made. My second choice listed would be the Maverick. Really, either one would be fine, but I believe only the 500 comes in the 20 GA.

I'd say go w/ the 500. Super common as far as spare parts/accessories go. Plus they won't break your bank.

If I go out and get a 20 ga Mossberg 500 with 26" barrel from the local sporting goods store then buy this 12 ga 18.5" barrel from wherever...I will have both a 12 or 20 ga shotgun?

NO.
buy a 20 or buy a 12. swapping barrels only works within the same guage.

Dynasty,

Stick with the 12 ga. I recommend the Mossberg 500. It's what I have at home. The second choice would be the Mavrick 88. Just a less expensive version of the Mossberg 500. And differance in the safety.

To my limited knowledge the only shotgun you listed that comes in the 20ga option is the mossberg 500. Best of luck to you with whatever you decide to purchase.
