Gun belt - where to buy?

I'm looking for a 1.5" wide leather (casual) belt for my Highnoon holster and Steyr M40. I've found plenty of them on the internet, with prices ranging from $35 to well over $100, most with descriptions saying that they're "good" because of this feature or that material. I don't know what makes a good gun belt, or how much I need to spend to get one that won't sag. Is it possible to get a good belt for about $50? If so, from where?

Check out the work belts at Wal-Mart... I used to use Alessi and Hume belts, but after discovering these cheapies, I use them almost exclusively. They're thick, heavy leather, and do a great job of keeping a holster in place. Best of all, they're about $12.00 apiece! :D

I've gotten some good ones at Walmart as well. A cowboy boot store is also a good place to check if you have one in your town. They usually have tons of good leather belts for decent prices.

One word: Wilderness (http://www.thewilderness.com/Pages/belts.html). I got their 1.5" Instructor belt with the 5-stitch option a couple of weeks ago. It's just about perfect. $35 plus shipping meant it was $42 to my door, pretty quickly.

KR. Hey! a member from a Louisville. I have permanent residency in Prospect Kentucky. Where are you at Kentucky Rifle? Have you noticed that there is NO indoor range in Louisville.

Google up Wild Bill's Holsters.

He has what appears to be a masters thesis on gun belts. Read it then make your own decision.

Wild Bill's does outstanding work at a reasonable price.

FILSON has a great double thickness harness leather belt that looks great with a pair of casual dress pants or jeans. It's around $50.00, but well worth the money. It is stiff and won't roll down with a little weight. Me and my brother-in-law both have one and love them. I think their website is www.filson.com.

After trying a bunch of both more and less expensive belts, I've finally settled on the Ranger style belts from www.epsaddlery.com as being my favorites of the lot.
They will sell you a double thickness if you want but I have found their single thickness belt perfectly fine for hauling a P220 and spare mag around every day.

call them and they sometimes can put you in touch with a nearby distributor that will ship it to you cheaper then they will

I got a Hume double thickness lined belt for Christmas two years ago, and it still looks new.

I've got a thick Galco belt that is about 1" tall and 1/4" thick. It looks like a dress belt and you can't tell that it's really a gun belt. However, if you're not wearing shirt & tie, go the route Preacherman speaks as cheap means more $ for more ammo.

I've been happy with belts from http://www.mitchrosen.com

They come pre-curved to fit better, and mine are slightly narrower at the buckle than the back, so they look better with dress trousers.

You might try Maverick Gun Leather (http://www2.itexas.net/~mgl).

They make a great-looking product that seems to last forever.

Ditto, RafterS.

Well made, pretty, comfortable, and inexpensive.

How about Milt Sparks? Their belts are a little pricey but very sturdy. I’ve had mine for about a month now, and it makes my old department-store belt (which served me well for over 10 years) feel like a flimsy mock belt.

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions! :D

After asking for suggestions, and receiving so many good ones, I feel a little embarrassed to say that I went with something completely different. :o

Based on price, color (really wanted dark brown), construction and return policy, I went with Kirkpatrick Leather. In case anyone cares, here's a link (http://www.kirkpatrickleather.com/product/h_tss.htm) that shows the belt. Not a good picture, though.

Thanks!

You would have to be blind not to find someone selling nice leather belts up there. I pick up a 1.5" wide extra think belt off a discount rack in a leather store for $5. I wish I would have bought all they had and sold them on ebay or something, all well you live and you learn.

I like RafterS but they are a little thick for some of my holster loops.

Does it have to be leather? I like my Wilderness rockclimbing poser belt.
