New Glock Factory Box?

Just bought me a G26 to carry when I can't carry a larger gun yesterday and I noticed that Glock actually has a pretty nice box now instead of that cheapo tupperware bowl they used to have.
I wonder why they changed and anyone know when they went to the new box?

Glock started using the new box around August 2002.

I wonder if they still use the old box for their Austrian military contract? I've heard that the old box was designed the way it was so that the handguns could be easily secured by putting a pole down the middle of a stack of boxes, and locking it on both ends with a cable, as the Austrian military does.

Must be a Euro thing. HK started using a similar box about the same time. No matter, once these things get home, they're rarely seen again.

I personally prefer the Tupperware. I put my guns in a safe, but I keep all the trimmings and these darn things are just too big. I think they did this because too many Americans were complaining about the el cheapo factory box for a $500 gun. Also, there were alot of nitwits putting loaded guns in the Tupperware boxes, only to have them go off.

For those of us not fortunate enough to be blessed with owning a Glock :neener:, would someone post a picture of the old style box? This "locked pole through the middle" idea is making me curious...

oh...wow. that's ingenious. wonder if the guy/gal who came up with that, got a nice bonus. :)
it makes them easier to steal too! ;) (assuming this stack is otherwise unsecured)

people kept trying to put a loaded pistol in the old box and it would "just go off by itself" :p

IIRC, there was a sticker on the box warning not to put a loaded gun in it. Textbook example of a negligent discharge. Problem is some people have to be shown what not to do, you can just tell 'em and most of the time these people score low on reading comprehension. Make something idiot-proof, along comes better idiots.
