I have an 1894 in .30-.30. It's fun to shoot, but as my eyes age the sights are not working well for me. I don't want to scope it yet, because I've already got a scoped rifle and part of why I like this rifle is the classic look.

What sights have you tried, good and bad?

Go to Cabela's website and find the shooting accessories, sights...

Lyman Tang $72.99, Pedersoli Tang $79.99, AO Ghost Ring $89.99, call it in, wait a week, put em on, you're good to go.

Till your eyes age a little more.:D (don't it suck?)

Adios

I have an AO ghost ring on my 94 Trapper and like it alot. Its a solid little thing that isnt prone to breaking off or need fiddling with. Once set its set. You can easily install it yourself if your rifle is a newer one with the recieve drilled and tapped for a scope as it uses the rear set of holes. Takes about 5 minutes to get it on. One minute to put it on and four minutes to find your glasses to do it! Sorry, just couldnt help it. :D I'm alllowed though cause I'm in the same boat. The worst part of the eye thing is the CRS that seems to come with it! :)

I put Lyman 66 receiver sights on my Winchester '94's and love 'em. I have the same problem you do and these sights are the cat's meow. Accurate, easy to acquire, rugged, reasonable price, I really like 'em.

I just grabbed my 94 Trapper and looked thru the Williams peep. Rear very fuzzy and front post pretty fuzzy with the distance Rx on top half, but look thru the lower reading Rx and front post and peep are nice and sharp, but another foot past the front sight and it's blurred from there on out. Scope time, drat it!

I installed new rear sights on my 1895 marlin, got a good selection of reproduction sights at www.capeoutfitters.com Got a new front sight replacement at Brownells.

I see Cape Outfitters is having some problems right now, their owner has just passed away.:(

I've got the Cabela's and Natchez paper catalogs here.
In the Cabela's I see the "Express Sights Ghost Ring Sights," which look good, and the "No. 2 Tang Sight." Natchez has a big selection, and also a huge selection of fiber optics sights. I do like the look of the XS ghost ring, though if I'm going to just have to scope it in five years I suppose I may as well give in.

I have fiber optic sights on one of my shotguns. Does anyone have any experience with them on a rifle?

I mounted a Lyman tang sight on my old Win. 94, and it's fine in daylight. I'd like to carry the old girl afield after deer, but I sight most deer at dawn or dusk. Scope mounting is problematic, for two reasons: (1) it's an older carbine, "pre-angle-eject;" (2) I like to carry it on-handed, with my mitt wrapped around the receiver (a scope would get in the way).

I've ordered a mount hat attaches via the rear sight dovetail on the barrel (ordered it sometime ago; received the wrong mount; reordered, & hope it arrives soon). :cuss:

I've never seen a "scout-type" mount for a lever-action carbine discussed, so I'll let you know how it works (if I ever get it). :banghead:

I think this might have been the original scout set up. I remember seeing my first Winchester with a pistol scope mounted forward of the ejection port back in the 60's due to the upward eject. Other than the offset type, it was the only other way to go. I tried the AO version of the mount, but didnt like the idea of having to "glue" it to the barrel(I tried it without gluing it first) so I abandoned the idea. Besides, it took the handiness out of the little Trapper.

Peep rear and fiber front is a good combo. I put the AO ghost ring on my '94 Marlin along with a Williams Firesight (fiber optic) insert for the factory front ramp. Very nice sight picture, front sight gathers a lot of light and really glows under most lighting conditions.

Tried Williams and Marble receiver sights on this gun too, but they were too big and bulky and seemed to hang up in brush, so back to the AO for me.

Try a lyman 66 receiver sight it will do wonders for your accuracy over the standard open sights.
