MOVIE GUN QUESTION: HEAT: Wayne Grow's gun

I'm working on a little article for MadOgre.com and I have a question about something.
http://www.madogre.com/Interviews/Guns_of_HEAT.htm
If you would be so kind as to take a look at the article, I make a gun ID that I am not 100% sure of. "Wayne Grow" Or Wayngrow what ever his name is... In the scene when they are knocking over the armored car, literally, we see this guy with an automatic pistol. I'm thinking it's a STAR MEGASTAR.
Can someone with a DVD verison catch a still of a close up of this... or just take a look at it and verify this for me?
This pistol is taken away from him and not given back. This is why later in the flick he has a similar looking gun, but a different gun. This later gun is a S&W... anyone knows what model that is? I'm not a S&W guy.

Last thing I am not sure of is the hitmans SMG. I think it's a TMP, but I'm not 100% I have an old VHS copy and I can't see it that good.

Thanks guys.

Uh... okay... what about his gun?

I think Wayne Grow had a 645 or some other large size Smith. The hitman had a Steyr subgun.

Ah, I got the SMG right. Good.

I've only seen a couple Star Megastars... but I think I am on target with it. Just wanting to be sure.

I remember noticing it was a Megastar when I first saw the film. 10mm or .45? Couldn't tell you.

Good firearm film in general.

Ah... it IS a Megastar!
Awesome. Thank you! Why I don't have this on DVD, I don't know.
Maybe because I have it on VHS and I dont want to buy the same thing twice?

Okay, so what gun is he holding in the hotel room at the end? Its stainless and kinda looks like the same thing.

That's a S&W auto. I'm not a S&W aficianado so I can't tell.
I'm hoping one of the enlightened here can fill me in. I am just guessing that its a .45.

Anyone?

Bueller?

I took a look at the DVD and it's not a S&W auto, at least not a real one. If you have the DVD, you can get a good look at it as he holds the gun up as he is standing at the hotel room door checking the peephole.

It has a really tiny ring-style hammer and a thin, squared trigger guard (not thick and hooked like the old S&W pistols). It has a slide-mounted safety, but it's not the right shape for a S&W, and the sights are neither Novaks or the old S&W style. They look like the sights that are on the CZ40. Front sight is ramped. The dust cover appears to be angled at the front.

I just googled-up a photo of the Star MegaStar. The gun he is carrying at the hotel is a stainless or chrome MegaStar.

Really?
Interesting... I could have sworn it was a S&W, but my VHS tape kinda glitches a bit there in that spot (and others) so I can't get a good look.
WhoKnowsWho - can you get some screen caps of that?

Spackler - You nailed it. It's another Megastar. Stainless. Very interesting.

Erm, looks a bit like a stainless Bernardelli PO18 to me..... in the last picture that is.

The PO18 slide seems taller than the Megastar...

Could it be what Star called "Starvel"? From what I've ready, it was some kind of nickel.

Alright I'm changing my vote to Megastar :D

Yup you're right, the PO19 doesn't have the slide mounted safety either. It was the contours of the slide and frame from the ejection port/grip area forward that had me fooled.

Key identifiers with the Megastar is its size, its long trigger guard, slide safety and most notably, inside frame rails.

Star, along with CZ (and clones) and the Sig 210 is one of the few manufacturers that used inside frame rails. Check out the model 30 and Ultrastar as well.

So is there a movie continuity problem? Didn't someone say they took away his Megastar earlier in the film? That's not a gun you just go get another copy of.

Yeah, if you watch the scene when they take down the armored car, Deniro takes Wayne's gun away from him.
This is of course something you would do if he screwed up and you planned on taking him out as punishment... which they did. Also, the first gun is black and the second is Stainless or Nickle.
So we can ???.u.me he did go out and get a new Megastar.

Is it just me, or is "Slick" (Sizemore's character) the biggest gun nut in the film? He never uses the same gun twice and he uses different guns from the other guys. FAL, Benelli M3 Super 90, Galil... this guy has good taste.
