...dirty, clean it. I cant think of anything else a blackened bolt face would indicate other than it just needs to be cleaned.I SUPPOSE it could mean that the rounds are not making a good seal in the chamber, and thus excess gas/burnt powder is blowing back onto the bolt face, but unlsess your seeing the bolt face go from bright and clean to really dark and dirty in just a few rounds or so, I dont think that applies. Also, I would expect to see an unusual amount of soot on the spent cartridge too, if that were the case.

It's most likely just carbon. Bolt faces get a lot of it. Like was said before...clean it. Too much carbon can cause light strikes on the primer because the firing pin hole is too dirty, or your action might get extra tight because there isn't enough room for the casing.

Could also be that you have a blued bolt face. :)

Depends on how old the gun is. If it is new it may very well be blued.

And the winner is Dirty....
Unfortunately my Digital Camera is broken and I need to buy a new one. However given a choice between Shooting equipment and a camera..guess what wins?

The SHR bolt face was black... its now silver. Hoppes foam+cleaning fluid+ a little gel and a brass brush did wonders....

Not too worried about it right now... I do need a new barrell and worst case will sell it.

Need to experiment with the Lapua Scenar bullets and Vithavouri powders... :neener:

Plus as soon as I decide btween the NP1-RR and NP-r2 reticles... will have a new scope as well. :)
