AR15 Mag question

I have my very first AR-15 on order, will get in about 3 weeks. It is a plain jane RRA A4 Style full length. The question, I have not ever handled an AR-15 though I did spend 4 years in the Army with an M16A2. I have 14 USGI 30 rd mags (mostly Okay and Center Industries) and 2 20 rd mags (one Colt and one Universal Industries) that the armorer was going to destroy so I snagged them as I was getting out. These were actually all the mags I had scrounged for my use and have fired at least blanks through each of them myself. All with possibly one exception are in good shape though they have cosmetic issues I do not care about.

The quantity of mags is more than enough for me, but is there any tangible advantage over these by new MFG ones? Only one of the mags has the new style green follower.

USGI mags are great! As far as the followers, you can always swap out for new Magpul followers.

yeah, some mags really are better than others, but since you already own them, shoot them. make a mark on the mag every time you have ANY sort of malfunction with it. if it becomes obvious that all your malfs are with one mag, dispose of it.

if you feel like it, it's fairly easy to replace the followers and springs with the much sexier magpul stuff, but most of my mag-related failures have been due to cracked spines an bent feedlips, not the color of the follower.

dang near everything made of metal or petroleum has doubled in price this year. mags have not. they're still cheap, relatively. the closer we get to a donkey in the white house, the more expensive they'll be. all things considered, quality magazines are probably a good investment.

What would the benefit be of the magpul followers/springs? Reliability?

I'm over thinking this I am sure, I bet the majority of the mags I have will work just fine as is. I'll reassess the number of good mags I have after blowing through the half a case of .223 I have coming at the same time.
