I havent killed a coyote ever since but I did shot a wild dog . It was full of ticks and very emaciated. Im glad I finish his misery from those sucking parasites. I blasted it with my 25 06 120 gr at around 50 yds.
So tell me, what s the technique in getting the pelt from a dead coyote?

Dont eat before you start and where nose plugs. Most are in good shape
but they really stink when skinning them (think skunk).

I cut a little tiny nick in the hide on the low inside of the legs and insert a basketball inflating needle on an air hose. Pinch it to seal it and hit it with some pressure to blow it up a little. You don't want to over-inflate him or tear the hide, just seperate the hide from the muscle and connective tissue. You still have to skin them but its faster and easier. and yes they do stink...
air hose is essential for cleaning turtle also.

I admit I have never heard of anyone skinning one. Cut the tail off for the bounty and be done with it is the normal course of action. Let us know how it goes, I can't imagine it will be much fun.

The same way I do deer.

Hang it up in a tree by it's neck, make sure the rope is around the area where the jawbone and neck kinda come together. Cut around the neck and skin down by hand about 2", do the same around the legs.

Take the 2" of loose skin and fold it down towards it's tail, insert a rock into the skin and tie a rope around the skin right below the rock. The rock acts as a stopper. Then tie the other end of the rope to your truck and slowly back away.

Peels it right off.

Skin it just like you would a deer...beat the tail with a hammer to loosen it up...then it will pull right out.

The water hose trick should work like a champ. have used it on deer and best is for goat,, cabritto don't you know.. Durn goat hair will go everywhere onto the meat if you not careful.

Good prime western pale pelts can go for as high as 45$ raw. Eastern darker pelts 30$

What is the stench from when skinning a coyote? Is is the Anal canal or glands or is it the meat?

This is not the answer to your question, but it might also help with those ticks and fleas. Put it in a plastic bag put opening of bag around the end of your muffler tight with truck running for about 6 or 7 mins. It kills all the bugs. I have never tried it, but read it in a predator hunting book.

It CAN work, but you need to dry it out very well as soon as your done. Remember the by-product of buring gasoline is water.

A dog choke chain around a back leg holds them well. Carry a short dowel baloney-cut & rounded smppth on one end to help separate the hide from the membrane (saves on your fingers, especially when it's cold). Skin them immediately while they are warm. If fleas/ticks are a concern, carry an old pair of tube socks sprayed liberally with insect repellent & slip these over your arms to discourage "travelers". Some manner of tail stripper is a must-have.

Tail stripper...lay it flat...beat it lightly with a hammer from end to end...it will pull right out...by hand. I've skinned coons, coyotes, foxes, minks, muskrats, beavers and a few more....that will work for for any hide that you need to get the tail out of...I learned it from my Grandad.
