In NJ prices tend to be pretty high, which I understand... low turnover, low demand, and small inventory... but I mean the prices are high! How do you feel about haggling?

Hey I bought a BHP this month. I paid $470.00. I had them throw in 50 rounds of 9MM or I was going to walk out. I got the BHP and my 50 rounds and two blocked to 10 extra magazines.

Also when buying C&R stuff at gun shows I know there is next to no room
on a $45 turkish mauser or $149.99 SKS. these folks need to make some money too.

Hell, yeah! Got some remarkable deals doing that. Sometimes they won't budge, but it's all part of the fun. Had to deal with my Kimber; they're too freakin expensive not to.

It depends on the gun and price. If it's a gun I really want and the price is reasonable, no, I won't dicker, or not much, anyway. If it's an overpriced gun I can take or leave, I'll haggle long, haggle hard, and see what develops.

When I bought my Mak I asked if he had any room in the $180 price and he said nope. I knew the price was within $15 of what an unissued Mak was going for so I said ok.

After the deal was done he gave me a military holster and a doskosil (SP) hard case to go with it.

Not really. I basically buy my guns from one store. Its not worth it to me to get them anywhere else. I just ask whoever is selling what he can do about the price, and they usually do more than I would expect to be fair.

When I feel there is room to bargain I usually ask " What is my out the door cash price on this gun right now?". Usually that will drop the price a bit and folks hearing the work "cash" tend to perk up a bit. The biggest thing is making it known you have cash in hand and aren't just browsing.

For a private sale at a gun show I usually find more room to dicker on the price.

What I despise is when you have a private sale all worked out and then they offer you less than initially agreed upon. I had this happen to me once. I was selling a used 870 for $150.00 and advertised the price in the local paper. Buyer contacted me and and we both agreed upon the price. Well he shows up with his son an hour later and says " well, it's for my son, but he only has $125.00 in his wallet. Will you accept this?" I said "NO" and then he makes a big show of "loaning " his son $25.00. :rolleyes:

I always ask. Sometimes I buy even if they don't drop the price. Sometimes I walk away. I figure it can't hurt to ask for a discount.

I saw a guy selling a 2 1/2" Python at a gun show for $1200. At the time, I didn't have one and really wanted it. I told him I didn't want to insult him with an offer and he said go ahead. I offered him $700 and he took it.:eek: :D

Sometimes I can't believe people will walk/let me walk away over 5% of the price of the gun. I guess every one has a line drawn in the sand some where.

folks hearing the work(sic) "cash" tend to perk up a bit Sometimes,,,sometimes not. Usually it depends on who the seller is. Older and/or private sellers may respond to "cash", but younger sellers or employees of the owner (in a store)don't care if you use cash, plastic or tobacco, as long as they get their paycheck. The best deals I've ever gotten have come via the "I can't decide between these 2,,,tell ya what,,what's the price if I buy both?"

The last few I bought the dealer brought down his price before I even got the chance to haggle! Since the price was far better than anywhere else that made it all the much easier!

I do most of my buying/trading with one shop and i haggle most of the time on used guns.Sometimes they'll drop the price without me asking:),it helps that i used to work with most of them in a different gun store and i've known them for 5-6 years.

I usually try to get stuff at the price tag out the door. Paying that tax that is added on bugs me so I try to save at least that much.
