Brady "Instant" Checks

OK, I haven't been here in a while because of study for insurance licensing. Yesterday, I went to my local gun-and-pawn to pick up my CZ-70 which had been in layaway. I fill out the paperwork, pay the money, and wait for the electronic instant check from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Well, long story short, the "instant" check placed me on a "pending" status, which meant that the cross-town drive was wasted and I have to redo it this week. The manager was mad as I was. It is ridiculous!! I thought that the electronic system was going to stop this!! :banghead: :cuss: :fire:

A few days ago I went to my FFL to pick up an AR-15 lower.
He was on hold for 36 minutes for my "instant" NICS check :cuss:

I've never had it take more than a minute, at most.
Maybe I'm lucky,

I have never had it take more than a few minutes, although my buddy, who was born in Sol Korea,(Dad was in service)has been delayed, every single time, with the call coming in at the very last minute.
Since we've both gotten our carry permits,we no longer have to deal with it here in Indiana.

Have a shooting buddy at work that is always on the "delay" status. Takes about 4-6 business hours, then he is "proceed".
If he tries to buy before about 11:00, he can usually get it late that same day, 5:00-6:00PM.
After 2:00PM, next day. Go figure that one out

In VA, my FFL got on the horn with the cops and got the okay in about 1 minute. Sorry for your trouble.

Had that problem a couple of years ago with a shotgun. We have a 48 hour waiting period here. When I went to finally pick up the gun, the dealer had to call somebody at the NICS office, because the transfer wasn't ok'd yet.
The person at the FBI told the dealer to tell me to come back in three days. The dealer lit into the FBI person, swearing and yelling, saying essentially that I'd just been to his office two months prior, that I obviously wasn't a criminal, etc. I thought for sure the transfer was going to be nixed, but I think he scared the heck out of the person, because he was given the go-ahead.

I always have the caller get switched to an operator cause there is another person of dubious character who lives in this area with the same name as mine. A local bank was calling my house wanting "me" to make my truck payment and they always got my wife. she explained that I do not have a truck let alone a loan for one. On the third call she realized it must be for this other Brian so she told the bank employee to "just come pick up the truck!", needless to say we did not get any more calls.

so far I've found all the handgun's I've purchased went through real quick.. the AR lower I purchased ended up taking near the 48hours that they are allowed.

According to John Lott, the time it takes for the Instacheck varies. He says 71% of the checks take about 30 seconds, 23% take 2 hours and 5% take "an unspecified but longer amount of time."
His research also found that the Instacheck system is down on average 1 hour for every 16.7 hours it is operating.

Shhhhh! Don't let the leftist extremists find out about that, or they'll send in computer experts to bring the system down 50% of the time.

IIRC, TN has up to 36 hours to complete the "instant" check.
I've only bought two guns from a shop; first took about 2 minutes, the second took about 15.

I don't see any need for that instant check stuff. I just pay for my guns and go.

Never a problem with the "Insta-Check" system; in most
cases being approved in a minute or less!:uhoh: :D

Everytime I am in Jensons in Loveland CO they have NICS on the speaker phone waiting. Most of the time I will come in and hear the hold music and leave hearing the same thing. Its a bit rediculous! I am in WY where I have a permit so no waiting. When I didnt have the permit it only took a minute or less.
Whats erks me is they ask for the serial number over the phone. If they arent registering guns to owners why do they need that number?

In Texas if you have a CHL that's all you have to have. It's seclect the gun du jour, pay and take it home.

Hmmmm. My son lives in PRK and he has a shotgun and no car. He is a bike freak. He'd like to take the shotgun to a range to play but how do you do it on a bike?

Again the old serial number rumour...let me again lay it to rest...when you call NICs to run a background check...they do not ask for a serial number...
They dont...
They dont...

Where in the State does he live?
Riding a bike with a shotgun in tow could spell trouble in this state.

South PRK in Escondito area. He needs to shoot the Winchester 1300 Defender one of these days just to know how he'll react to it if some BGs try to invade his home.
He's a smart ex Navy guy with a love of bikes.

I was always instantly approved. Then I got my CWP and didn't have to do the check any more. Only exception is when I bought a Hi Power from the FN Manufacturing plant - the lady doesn't take CWPs and does background checks on everyone. That place has very tight security - but what else would you expect from a place that manufactures machine guns. I can't think of any close friends or family members that have been delayed.
