The "Post your target" challenges continue...
#7) Save the Train!

The evil Stanly McSinister has put dynamite on the bridge and the train is headed for disaster. The Duke is on the other side of town and can’t make it in time. Looks like only YOU can save the passengers from a horrible fate by shooting the fuse out of the dynamite and time is running out!

Print out this target (courtesy of “Targetz.com)
http://www.targetz.com/targetzlib/20013.pdf

1) Download, print, and Post the target at around 30ft.
2) Shooting offhand (no braces, props, or benches).
2) Shoot the fuse (as many shots as it takes, but it must be completely broken).
3) DON’T hit the dynamite or the whole train goes KABOOM!

As always, when you post don't forget to give us some details on your shooting (gun used, stance used, etc).

Super EXTRA BONUS POINTS:

1,000 bonus points if this challenge is shot with an SAA revolver like the Duke would have done it AND another 4,000 super extra bonus points for anyone successfully shooting this with their weak hand.

Have fun, Be SAFE!

Well I took my own challenge this evening.

First the bottom feeders (shot two handed, standing)

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/zespectre/Dynamite_cz_left.jpg

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/zespectre/Dynamite_cz_Right.jpg

Then I took my bonus challenge with my trusty Ruger Blackhawk SAA. First Left (strong) hand and then Right (weak) hand. Both were done single handed "bullseye" style with no support. My "lefty" results were a surprise and I'd have been pleased with "righty" if I hadn't blown up the train on the LAST SHOT! <sigh>.

I will participate as soon as I can find a set of railroad tracks that aren't overgrown, a damsel to be in distress, and as soon as my XXL set of black clothing and top hat come in.

Great one Ze!

Well, bfox, you'd be happy if you were me, I guess.

Colt Scout: SAA style, .22LR, single action revolver; 30 ft from target. CCI Green Tag ammunition.

Sunny and 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with a west breeze (blowing from left to right where I was shooting). Given my results, there was not enough breeze that I could claim that it was my reason for missing. Facing north, the sun wasn't in my eyes, either.

Right hand, dueler's stance (I'm right handed and right eyed):
I hit the dynamite before hitting the fuse. :uhoh:

Left (weak) hand, modified dueler's stance (right eye):
I hit the dynamite before hitting the fuse.

Weaver stance:
I hit the dynamite before hitting the fuse. :barf:

I'm going to borrow a Python with which I've convinced myself that I suck less. Results in a few days. Based on my results so far, my best option is to run over and pull the fuse from that dynamite, then try to get off the bridge in time. :o

Ok,
I reversed the scenario, I imagined that I had disarmed the bad guy's trap, acquired his explosive, and then placed it under his saddle. There wasn't much left to identify. Here's attempt number one at 15 yards with my carry gun, a S&W 3913 using a modified Weaver stance:

Attempt number two was also at 15 yards one handed (primary hand) with a Russian TT-33 firing 7.62 Tokarev. Note the one shot snip:D There were only two shots taken as I feel that I couldn't repeat what happened in shots one and two.

It's also fun to change the rules. For scenario 1, I also short-sheeted Stanley McSinister's bed, starched his black suit and boxers, switched his hair tonic to Ladanum, switched his .45 Colt rounds to .45 Colt rounds loaded with Confetti, and gave him the Duke's room number and which saloon he was staying at.

30 feet, 10 yards
off hand
Dont hit the dynamite
I cant wait to try this, I dont do much off hand shooting but I also never shoot at 30' so this should be fun.

And, having just gotten back from the weekend, I can now report that I forgot the target. :(:(:( Heavy sigh.

If I go over the Carter's this week I'll see if they'll let me stick it onto one of the circle targets they sell.

And if anyone finds my brain, please let me know.... :uhoh:

Ze,

I'll freely admit that those shots in the first target didn't go where I wanted them to, so I changed the scenario and then it got me thinking why is the hero always coming in at the last minute with some desperate last-minute scheme that statistically should fail? Why not take some time to reconnoiter the town, and see what's up?

The shots on the second target I will admit are luck, plain and simple. :D

April 7, 2008, 09:47 PM
OK. Did this with a 1971 Ruger standard .22 w/ original non-adjustable iron sights.

@ 10 paces, I didn't measure perfectly. Standing, 2 hand hold.

I had a nice one before this but I popped the very top of the right stick of gobang.:banghead:

Well, i tried it this weekend. I was at about 50 ft because i forgot the rules. I couldnt hit the string to save my own life, let alone a damzel's. I'm not even posting the targets because i hit every stick of dynamite a couple times before hitting any string and i never hit the main fuse. It was down right ugly. I blame the gun, needs to go back to ruger.

I am trying here in a few minutes, but the camera isn't available right now, will post pictures, good and bad, (probably mostly bad...), as soon as it comes back.

Here are my results...as you can tell I am a lot more proficient with my strong hand. Also, I used my Walther P22 with "addition" due to being on the edge of the city limits (less than 100yds away)...but not too much is said usually....but my neighbors understand if they hear a few shots, that I have more than likely purchased a new gun...and have to try it out...compromise isn't always sooo bad...in some things.

I will try my other calibers when I get a chance...more challenges to come hopefully!!!

My gun-fu was weak. I blew up the train four times, and allowed the fuse to burn to it's end once.

I don't have my camera, so I can't post the pics, but they are here, and marked, so I can post them when I get it.

Smedley, I'll bring you down someday!

Thanks for the comment above...it may have to part to do with an 8" barrel on my P22...5" + "addition" 3"...does help a little...I really want to take it back to the "real time" , and use my SA Cowboy rig...that will truly show how accurate I am...could end up being a bad day for the good guys, and a great day for the bad guys...unless I shoot it while they are attaching it to the tracks...hmmmm...could be a way out....

My old, old Canon printer has been down for a while.
I finally got another and printed up the target.

I have a ten year old Kimber Ultra Carry that is super accurate, so I thought I'd try it on the fuse.

First shot today. Suprised me.:)

B) Knows when to stop!

Funny story.

A friend and I were sighting in his Father's 30-30. It only took us 6-8 rounds.
I said, I'll see how this 45 does at 100 yards (EAA Witness Compact, I later gave the gun to my friend)

I shot across a sand bag, then used the spotting scope.
I couldn't find the shot at first because I was looking around the edge of the 8.5x11 inch paper target.
Then I started laughing.

My friend said, No way, don't tell me you hit the target, No way.

I just kept laughing.

My friend looked through the scope and said, I just don't believe this.

The bullet had hit dead center in the X in the 10 ring.

When I stopped laughing he said, Are you going to shoot anymore?

I said, WHY!:D

I'm afraid the train passengers have had it.:(
Six shots and I still couldn't hit the fuse.

Oh well better luck next train load of passengers.:D

My PD is at the range this week. So I took this one along. So far, I got it with a G23- but it took a bit. Interestingly enough, I brought a "new" used S&W Model 19 I bought on Saturday- hit the fuse perfect on the second shot. I had four people today- none got it. We have two more days of handgun, so I'll run them all though it. This should be interesting. :uhoh:

Tomorrow, I'll bring a G35 and try that. Maybe if I feel very lucky, I'll try with a G27.

Wednesday we do shotgun- can I try with a slug?

Next week, I'll scan the good targets and post them. I would hope a few of the guys can do it.

Was at the range yesterday and after embarrassing myself shooting some lousy targets with both pistol and rifle, I thought to myself "Self, you have extra training ammo and these challenge targets, let's have some fun for once."

Just plinking away, hoping to hit it...I hit the dynamite on the third target, so I didn't save that one.
