Are there any ranges in Illinois (near Cook County) where you can be under 21 and not with a legal guardian to shoot? I've only been to 2 ranges (Maxon and Gat) and you need to be 21 or with a legal guardian if under 21. I'm over 21 but my sister just turned 19 and I would like to take her shooting.

been a long time but there was a out door range out by carpendersville no idea what the name was. call Bell's gun shop in Franklin park. gun ranges are a rarity in the chicago land area. sounds very strange you must be over 21. that range in carpentersville went there with a friend and his 10 yr and shot. do a web search for gun ranges in ill. try the illinois state rifle association web site.

The range by Carpentersville closed a long time ago. Bells is also closed. I believe that being 21 or over you are considered her guardian when she is with you. Before Gun World closed the rule was you had to be with someone over 21. You could call either of the ranges that you mentioned and ask how you should procede.

I would check out the park district police. They tend to have ranges that they might be willing to use. In Peoria, they share one with the IVRL, or Illinois Valley Rifle League. You had to be with a member that was over 21 and could only shoot .22, but it was a range. You could also try to find contact information on the IVRL and ask them. Membership is fairly inexpensive.

That's lame. I am 19 and own 3 firearms. I go to the Belleville Shooting Range by myself and I bring friends along sometimes. No problems here

Does anyone know where they have classes so I can have my girlfriend qualify for her Florida permit?

Marcus,

Maxon is a bit uptight but they are in Cook County and are only watching out for thier livleyhood. Cook County and the town of Des Plaines are looking for anything so they can pounce.

G.A.T. Guns I am surprised, unless you were trying to rent a gun. If you bring your own gear and ammo you only have to sign on the dotted line on two different forms.
