This Kali recall is turning in to a circus!

Believe me, I'm all for kicking Red Gray Davis outta the office. I support the recall entirely. But geeze, we got freakin Larry Flynt, "The smut-hustler who cares", and about, what is it now, 300 people, running for office? What's up with this? What compelled these people to run for the recall, but not in a normal election?

1. It is slightly under 200 people on the ballot.
2. Requirements to be on ballot: $3500 and 65 signatures. We already knew we had over 1400 idiots, what is suprising is that nearly 200 of them seem to be able to muster $3500.
3. A vehicle can be used to get from point A to point B, but it can also get you attention, chicks, speeding tickets, etc. Same with running for Gov.

People get the leadership they deserve. Californians have no one to blame but themselves. They've been content to ignore life's realities for too long and allowed a bunch of putzes who buy votes by doling out the public largese for too long. PC/'tolerance' has gone way too far.
Hopefully, this political abortion will wake up all the stupid, lazy citizens to the fact that there is no free lunch and perhaps they will grow the cojones necessary to deal with the problems they are facing. If they settle for superficial 'leaders' from the cult of celebrity, things ain't gonna get better.
When (and if) they insist on candidates that can actually identify the problems and articulate their related positions, and then think it thru and vote accordingly (i.e. make an informed, intelligent choice), MAYBE things will get better. Good luck, y'all.

What do you mean "...turning into a circus..." ? ? ?
It IS a circus. Barnum/Bailey/Ringling Brothers at their absolute very best couldn't put on a show like this.
Red "Gray-Out" Davis knows his time is coming to an end. I saw his ugly mug on the Tee Vee a few times over the last week, and every time he looks more worried & pinched.
Red consulting with the Klintoons.....meetings with big Union leaders....trying to get the Sec. of State to not certify recall petitions....Trying to get his name among the choices if recalled....

I have not seen this question asked:
Why doesn't Davis resign and save California from being the laughing stock of the nation...no make that the world.
Actually... underground space aliens are probably waiting for the opprotune time to take over the earth and the California fiasco is their green light.
Hmm Greys..Gray Davis. Never thought of that. :scrutiny:

That train has left the station. Doofus could have resigned before the recall was certified for the ballot, but now that it is certified, even if he resigns, the election goes on. The first question about recalling him is now moot, but the second question of picking his replacement is still in play. The only advantage the Dems would have if Doofus resigns would be that Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante would be acting Gov, and an incumbent in the position, and as such, may have an advantage in the election. He is running to replace his boss.

I suspect some of the wilder folks are running to deliberately make it a circus, and thereby "make a statement."

All of these nutcases running for Governor is a good thing. It should be like this more often instead of waiting for the Republicans and Democrats to place the candidates and choosing from between them. Larry Flynt, Ahnald Shvartzenegger, and the porn star are getting all of the attention because they're the strangest. I'll bet that there are 50 reasonably intelligent people on the ballot. That's far better than what we usually get.
The smartest thing the Democrats can do is step aside and the let a Republican win by a landslide.
The state is in terrible shape. Good leadship could bring the state to a reasonably stable condition in ten years, but everyone will expect it to be done in two. Whoever goes in next is in a no-win situation.

Make it a circus? Guess you didn't see the CNN bit on Friday Aug. 8 with (fer crissakes!) Gary Coleman, runt who appeared in such paragons of comedic writing as "Different Strokes". He spent his 15 seconds of infamy talking about how politics should be entertainment, and would make it fact when he is elected governor.
I gotta get out of this state....

We all see what we want to see. Some people might think Bloomberg
winning in NYC is a "circus" or maybe Torricelli getting a pass in NJ
or Napolitano in AZ cozying up to illegals. Remember, folks, you are
all part of this circus and if California goes down or changes its name
to Alta California you will find that a big chunk of American
prosperity has gone with it.
This election is about Schwartzenegger versus Bustamante. It will
take Arnold's "celebrity power" to beat The Machine and the
repatriatistas. Hear me now, believe me later.

Real men make mistakes, admit them, make corrections, apologize, make amends, and move on. Socialist parasites just make more mistakes and lie about them.

I put the odds at fifty-fifty that by the time of the election, people will be organizing tailgate parties at their polling places.

There are, after all, many things more important than money. All in all I think losing California would be more than a fair trade. No more California politics running roughshod over the textbook publishers, no more Hollywood types sticking their noses in national politics, the list goes on and on...btw, How do you say Hollywood in Spanish?
I'm sure there must be many normal people in California. I guess there are, aren't there? We just never hear about them.
Good luck with the future. Y'all got lots of potential.

You know, I've lived in California most of my life and I don't recall
hearing Californians wish that New England would be washed out to
sea, that the New Madrid fault would act up and level the Midwest,
that D.C. would return to being a swamp, that hurricanes would take
out the Southeast. I don't even remember them gloating over your
foul weather. That could be because most Californias a) came from
somewhere else--to get away from the social and cultural strictures
they found oppressive there and b) don't think a whole lot about places they
don't find very interesting. This ill wishing sounds, well, more than
a little provincial, you know, rather childish too.
You may think right now that you could do without California. You are
way, way wrong. And keep reminding yourself that what is happening
here is not confined to California. Get back to me in five years and
we'll talk, when you are dealing with most of the same issues.:)

A little touchy there aren't we?
I don't see any "ill wishing" in my post. None. Read it again without the defense in blitz mode would ya?
Just a wistful thought that maybe, just maybe, we'd be better off without California and it's overbearing extremists. To repeat myself, I guess we just never hear about the normal people.
And what foul weather? I've been here 52 years and all I've ever seen are 4 seasons and I love them all.
Provincial? You're call me provincial and then turn around and say Virginia will end up like California in five years? Oh, that's a good one. Spoken like someone from the center of the universe.

I rest my case. You will get nowhere partitioning America into bad states and good states. Those of us who live in California are well aware of its problems; we're trying to be part of a solution, not the problem. Frankly, the California-bashing is getting a little old. I have nothing to be "touchy" about. California has been an engine of progress for this entire country. You should lament its recent turn to the Dark Side.
I have nothing against Virginia or any other state. Enjoy your seasons.

Kali is the last outpost of wierdness and individualism that made America great, plus they got great scenery and weather. What we all fergit while we watch em make fools outa themselves is even tho they do have many of the most stupid laws and politicians, don't most Kalifornians disregard most of those rules? The reason they are pissed at Red Davis is that he got too serious with his left wing, robber baron sleepin' rule makin' and made it so the denizens of Kali couldn't ignore the rules anymore. My .02

August 13, 2003, 05:04 PM
I believe that McClintock (sp?) is pro-self defense, fiscal conservative, pro-business.
Probably the best choice on the ballot from what little I've read about him.
With the Terminator running, though, he doesn't have a chance.

McClintock is clear on gun rights. He's also the best on the other
important issues. If life were fair, he'd be the next Governor out
here.
Right now Schwarz'r looks unstoppable. Of course there's still a lot
of time left.

It is not a Circus. To suggest this implies you are a Gray Davis supporter and would like to see every bill Jack "off" Scott proposes become law. Arnold is a major RINO but Davis is a Bill Clintoon clone when it comes to gun control. Vote for the Porn Star if you think it's a circus. The recall provision has been on the books longer than anyone here has been alive and it was put there just for people like Davis. My guess is whoever started this thread won't vote and never did.
