sistema,

Perhaps, but it's got other uses too!

Imagine lighting up the room with one of these and blinding the hell out of a BG.

Did you see the $2,000 lasers they had?

if this is the light I think it is, Popular Mechanics had poor luck with it. THe light itself caught fire.

It's just too awesome for mere mortals....

Now they need to find a way to concentrate it into a light-beam, then make it even more concentrated into a light sabre. :)

They have a frickin' laser for $1700.

A frickin' *two-fingered hand parenthesis sign* LASER for seventeen-hundred frinkin' dollars.

What's so special about that?

Blackbear, THR member, builds flashlights that will do that and won't set itself on fire.

Hank,

It'll cut plastic. :)

Pretty nice though. I'd like to have a light that powerful.

Hmmmm, it just needs a little batman symbol to flip across the lens.

The BlackBear "Borealis" light I have will light up a stop sign at 500 meters. I have used it to cut through rain, snow, and dust in Afghanistan, identifying small animals at 200 meters.

It does get warm, but will last much longer than this monstrosity.

The "torch" is a well made light by one of the star modders in CPF. I have played with one that belong to a friend of mine (although it was an earlier model with 8 minutes run time) and the 4,000 + lumens is amazing.

The problem is that the light gets extremelly hot and is difficult to hold for long in your hand, also the big bulb has a big filament and it produces a lot of flood with limited throw.

It is a type of light that we call "barbecue lights" some people buy them to impress the friends on the fourth of July, the same way as the engraved, ivory stocked guns that we display in the barbecues.

On the other hand, the Borealis is a light to use in the streets, it will run for 50 minutes (I am using now Powerex 2700 mah batteries) and output 1050 lumens (two million candlepower).

I take the opportunity to thanks all my friends here at THR for the support that I have received.
All the best

I have a Black Bear "Borealis" and a Black Bear "Bear Cub" and both are outstanding lights, with an excellent balance of massive output, battery runtime, and durability. The Borealis is my "home defense" or all-purpose home flashlight, and the Bear Cub I use both in the home and take it along on vacations and camping/hunting trips. Good prices, too - check out Mr. Black Bear's lights - they won't disappoint.

The full-size Borealis is a good ranch/car/boat/home light, while the Cub is an excellent all-around light.
