Pardon if this has been answered before.........

How do the Army/Marine infantry guys carry extra shotgun ammo?
Is there some kind of USGI bandolier? Pouch? Pocket?

Thanks

Very few use actual USGI gear nowadays...

Most guys go the extra mile and pay for gear that fits our needs/preferences better than the pouches that some zero at battalion ordered.

Are you looking for a belt type or MOLLE platform? I personally try to stick with Tactical Assault Gear or Specter Gear.

Of course, I usually carry extra shells in a tan Maxpedition Rollypoly on my belt.

My roomie used to carry his 12 extra shells in a pouch attached to his belt. A few others in my convoys would just stick the shells in their MOLLE straps. Hard to do at first, but you get used to it. Considering a .50 cal or 40mm were their primary weapons, they wernt too worried about it.

Our guys that carry shotguns have the slings with shell loops, and some use the shell carriers that attach to the side of the weapon. The unit supply orders aftermarket accessories because our general issue doesn't give out shotshell carriers because of the relative minority of soldiers that carry them as compared to M4/M16s.

On shotguns most guys have some type of side saddle/ carrier that holds 5-8 rounds plus whatever is in the mag. Then carry a couple of boxes loose in a dump pouch. There is no standard that I know of but most guys carry at least 50 rounds.

Standard issue for rifle ammo is 210 rounds. I always carried more as when you are out its game over.

There is no "official" solution, units buy what ever they see fit. SOF units have a pouch issued in their new gear, but I'm not sure what it is.

most of us that have shotguns have either ammo carriers on the shotgun, some of us have shot shell holders on our gear, i have a patriot shot shell panel for my hsg woosatch. and others use the tactical tailor verticle shell holder, most all of us have after market plate carriers and/or chest rigs. the most common of which is a blackhawk commando, or recon, there is few diamond back tactical rigs in my company, and there is a little bds stuff here and there. and a good amout of hsg.

Vietnam era shotgun ammo pouches were OD nylon, similar to those pictured here. Earlier pouches (WW2, M1938 shotshell pouch) were also similar, but were made of canvas.
