I thought it would be nice if we could gather various 1911 images into a single thread. That should make it easier for newbies to see what is available out there for 1911s.

I'll start with a picture of the only two 1911s I have at present.

disregard the 22a above it. The is the original field stripped and pieced together 1911 with Essex frame, Ithaca slide and colt barrel. It was purchased for $250 at an estate sale and the guy threw in a mauser...

LOL, good stuff Xavier! :)

First, I don't know everything, and all I know is that I don't know.

2nd, I didn't know Remington made a 1911 (But it looks great!)

III, I saw in a documentary recently that during the civil war Remington and Colt both vied for military pistol contracts, was that Remmy meant to see service or does it just look a heck of alot like a "GI" model?

Robert,

Yes, the Remiginton Rand M1911A1 is a US GI service pistol.

M1911A1s (the real deal WWII GI guns) were made by Remington Rand, Ithaca, Colt and Union Switch & Signal. 500 guns were also made by Singer (sewing machines).

M1911s (WW1) were produced by Colt, Remington-UMC, and Springfield Armory with a few by North American Arms Company. Savage also had a contract, but produced no pistols.

Much historical informationas well as other good to know stuff and trivia can be found here (http://www.sightm1911.com/1911.htm) and here (http://www.coolgunsite.com/).

My stomach hurts from laughing. :D

And I thought 1911tuner had a problem.... Then as I scroll I realize that he could be the leader in a 1911aholics anonymous class where xavier would be the one wearing the straight jacket in the corner mumbling about external extractors and shaking uncontrollably.

Thanks to you two for making me feel less ashamed of having to have more 1911's, even if I already have 5. I'll be sure to take some new pics for everyone. None of mine are pictured yet (exactly).

Magyar quipped:

Hey John, a.k.a. "Tuner", I didn't see any Officer's model...You really don't like short barrels

Keep lookin'. There's one there. Bottom-center of the spread. The one on the far left. It was a gift from my step-father. An early 1991A1 Compact that's never missed a beat in 500 rounds. I replaced the shear-prone bushing with a new stock part, and laid it aside for occasional carry.

Take note of the "Commander" at the top of the same group. Notice anything odd about that one?

Is that a cut down 1911 (not A1)?

Is that a cut down 1911 (not A1)?

Close. It's a junked/cannabalized 1918 Colt frame...Peened and refitted and cut down only on the dust cover to match the contours of the Series 80 Commander slide. I regained a lot of the lost travel by thinning the recoil guide rod flange to .045 inch. Makes for a good medium-duty range pistol that I've carried a little. The pistol now wears a Colt Commander ring hammer and a Clark grip safety.

Note the check-drlled cracks in the frame. That was 20 years ago.

XavierBreath,

My first 1911 was an early Colt Combat Elite.

It evolved into a tricked out limited race gun with a 2lb. trigger pull and lots of custom work. Alas, I eventually shot it loose and traded it off.

Actually, the only 1911 derivative I currently own is a 1st generation Kimber Ultra CDP. It is a lightweight officer's sized gun that goes bang every time and has wonderful accuracy for a 3" gun. It has been one of my key CCW firearms for about nine years or so.

http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/246/246167/folders/233364/20707202X.45acp.jpg

Still . . . I hate this thread . . . it makes me want more, more, MORE . . . and that's bad for this diehard revolver man!!!

Here is a picture of my Frankenstein Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 45. The grips, bobbed hammer, and Drop in Beavertail are all from my first 1911. A beautiful Colt Combat Commander in Satin Nickel, had to sell for financial reasons...:banghead:
But of course there is no cure for the 1911 Fever, once bitten you will always have to have at least one 1911... in very severe cases, you need 10 to 20. So far I have only the early symptoms and one 1911 is all I need, but of course the more time I spend on THR looking at all of these beautiful 1911's, the more likely my case will get worse. 1911 Fever is very rare in that it can be spread to other humans just by seeing other people's 1911's on the internet, very rare virus that can jump from computer to human. :D

Sorry for glare, not the best picture.

Here is my current line-up,
The charles daly is a sleeper among .45's you get a highly modified gun for the money. The longslide is just too cool, it's also a one hole gun at 15 yards, and a pic to compare the diff. 7" of barrel and slide, The decked out Kimber is a royal II that needs a front grip strap checkering. The last is my early first series Kimber of Oregon. I hate to admit it but the Daly has the best trigger of the bunch!

You guys are really great photographers, wish I was too. My 1911 is an old Government Colt that was apparently arsenal refinished. A friend made and gave me the Ivory grips. I have shot untold number of rounds through it. It rattles but functions as expected. I shoot only 230 grain ball ammo.

My neighbor found this old gun in her garage, must have been left there by her husband. She gave it to me for raking her leaves, didn't want it in the house.

I've been wanting a Beretta PX9 Storm. I wonder if I can sell this for enough to get one........

After seeing some of the collections on this thread, I suddenly feel I need to add more 1911's to my stable.
So if this is a sickness, I don't have a fever yet........anyways my paltry addition to this thread.

Here's my meager offering, my Rock Island GI that I changed sights, hammer, trigger, grips and installed a beavertail on, then had it blued.

Four Series I Kimbers. EDC on bottom, my spare in the middle, and the 4" I used to carry on top. The BUL M5/Kimber polymer stainless on the top left. I have since switched the triggers in my spare and my compact...

My first pistol, the money pit. A POS AMT hardballer, rebuilt into a dedicated .22lr. A recent modification is the hidden bomar rear, will soon have a taller front sight as it still shoots high. By then, I'll have over $800 in this pistol, including initial $200 purchase, which would make my fist pistol my most expensive, yet still worthless...
http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/vv360/zephyr351c/DSCN1058.jpg

Not a 1911, but looks like one;) I had it bead blasted, then had it milled for a Novak LoMount, and installed a 10-8 rear sight. Not long after taking this pic, I installed the correct slotted screws.
