80% of aid supplied by the USA must be spent on US made product's!
That is why the Isaeli's have such a diverse amount of US equipment.
Some countries get their aid and buy grain others buy what we will sell them be it food or equipment(military or technical).

What was wrong with the Galil?Spoke with an Israeli soldier about this once. He said there was nothing wrong with the gun exept the weight and accuracy. The problem is, we gave them enough M-16 types that they got to appreciate the lighter weight and greater accuracy. I asked about the magazine and how easy they were to insert and remove from the Galil but the guy didn't seem to have a preference. He said he never thougth about it... just different.
Now when you consider how cheap the M-16's were with Foreign Military Aid from the US, why did they need a heavier, less accurate gun that was derivative of the AK and AR in the first place? Because they LOVED certain aspects of the AK-47 and wanted a gun like it.
Why they'd want to switch to the TAVOR remains to be seen. I haven't handled a Tavor and doubt I will any time soon. Maybe they have got a better gun for their purposes. Who knows.

The original Tavor looks kind of cool.
The civilian version looks like something that crawled out of an old septic tank.
Why didn't they just let it like it was?
But I can't fault their decision. I have never served in the Israeli army, so I don't know what kind of conditions their arms see.
I doubt they could come up with anything more reliable than an AK, but who knows?
I say have at it.
Maybe they will end up teaching us something.
