Just Pondering

The standard HD setup seems to be a CYL choke and 00 buck---what would be the thought on going the other way----say a Super Full Turkey choke and larger bird shot like 2's or 4's.

Just wondering because I just put a 20" RS Rem-choke barrel on my back-up 870(#1 is a 7-shot CYL Express-w/00 buck)---going through the items on hand--seems the tight Turkey choke with the sights and heavy bird shot would put a pounding on an intruder with less chance of over penetrating.

Thoughts?

OK Rugerfreak nobody has said it yet so I'll tell you that small shot doesn't penetrate well.

That said, if it was what I had I'd use it in a heartbeat. maybe even quicker.

Very tight chokes oft are more than desired for defense, in that some pellets deform and leave the pattern. Only testing at the patterning board will tell.

Bird shot will work if close enough. SO will 00. Close enough with 00 is maybe 20 yards farther. I'll stick with 00.
