The slide on my Sig P226 is showing wear on it's blued finish and I was wondering what the best way would be to polish it on my own. Thanks to all who could help me out.

If you polish it you will remove the remaining blue.

My intention is to remove the bluing. I guess I should have put that in my original question.

Why?
What are you going to put on it?
I buy ss slide whenever possible just so this does not happen.

If you think blued steel rusts easily you are in for a nasty lesson with bare steel.
Some newer lubricants are better at preventing fingerprint rust, etc., but 'armory bright' (what the Springfield Armory called the bare steel) is very easy to damage.

I bought a worn & rusty Sistema last year. The finish was 0%, exept for the rust.
I cleaned it with Evaporust, buffed out a few nicks with 600 emery paper.
Applied a coat of pastewax on the exterior, oiled the rest, and put new grips on it.
Looked good, did not rust.
