Does anyone know the ballistics of a 2+3/4in slug from a 26" barrel?

Also, what choke is best for shooting slugs from an unrifled barrel?

Thanks all,
Dorrin

A 26" barrel should give pretty close to factory specs. Check the specs. The different loads are not the same.

I use an IC choke. Try what you have and see how it works. Your mileage will vary.

The thread, Slugs 101 contains info you may find useful.

As for choke, try what you have and see. Very loose rule, open chokes do better. If this is a tubed gun, try the most open first.

HTH...

Can I add a question to this thread? To bad, I'm going to do it anyway... ;)

Is it normal for the wad to come out and smack a target at 10 yards? I noticed yesterday that every shot made two large holes about 3 or 4" apart from each other.

Just curious, never happened before.

The wad thing happens with my M-1 with Clyinder choke and Federal Tactical Slugs.

When shooting slugs even out to 25 yards I often find the wad still hitting the paper. It leaves a pretty nasty looking hole in the paper and hopefully the nice clean hole is a lot closer to POA :)

I can't give 26" specs, but from my 24" rifled Mossberg 500, Remington 2-3/4" 1oz slugs run just about 1550-1560fps exactly. That's chronographed at about 3ft from the muzzle.
Try cylinder or improved cylinder. The slugs measure about .68-.69", so they'll fit through most chokes easily.
