Load Master Questions

I plan on getting a Lee LoadMaster and have a couple of questions.
1. Why does the sizing die get turned IN after it touches the carrier? It seems like you'd back it out 1/4 turn.
2. I really prefer Federal Primers so I guess I'll be ordering the blast deflecter, but I havn't seen any pictures of it mounted. How does it mount and can you still see how many primers you have left?
3. What spare parts should I order, if any?
Thanks Gang.

You turn the sizing die in a bit once it touches the shell holder to account for the "springiness" of the shell plate. You really want the sizer die to be what stops the rams upward motion.

The blast deflector screws in to cover the primer tray at the top of the stroke. You check the remaining primers at the bottom of the stroke. There are witness holes in the down tube to tell you to stop as soon as you don't see a primer in the top most hole.

IMHO you really need the universal decapper die in station one, and remove the decapper pin from the sizing die for the best results when priming with the load master.

Other spare parts that'll come in handy:

Case feeder crank slider.

Entire primer sub-assembley, the extra tray will come in handy every time, and its easier to swap the whole thing and move on to continue loaidng, then order replacement for what broke later.

Spare case feeder slider as when the crank goes you are likely to crush the slider if you fail to notice it didn't retract.

Also, get the case collimator -- big help filling the case feeder tubes.

I think the bullet feeder is more trouble than its worth.

Thanks Wally! OK, that makes sense. I'm just used to contacting the shell plate and backing off a bit but it looks like it depends on the press. Good news about the deflector, as I thought it moved up and down with the ram. Yes, I ordered the collator also, along with a universal decapper for station one.
I feel very confident I won't have any problems. The LM support here is excellent along with the excellent videos on YouTube. Those guys really have done a nice job. Thanks again Wally.

I would skip the Federal primers in a Loadmaster. Why tempt fate?
