AOL Blocking Guns America

Guns America reports that AOL is blocking their emails. Even more reason to get rid of AOL, if ya needed one before. While ya cant boycott every gun company, you can make it hard enough for some of them.

A.O.L. has practiced both censorship and anti-Second Amendment bigotry for years, and so won't ever get a shiny Truman dime from me.

in aol's ongoing "war on spam", they are simply filtering millions of legitimate emails every day to beef up their numbers of supposed spams they are blocking. seems they have decided to take it upon themselves to decide what their members should and should not receive when it comes to email... I wouldnt be surprised if there was a class action somewhere in the near future for them.... gunsamerica is far from being the only business experiencing these troubles.

AOL can send me as many CDs as they like. They make great targets as well as depleting their funds in a vain attempt to get me to switch over.

We dumped AOL last month. We were on AOL for over three years and when my wife called them to cancel the account the lady on the phone wanted to know why.
We told them two reasons. AOL is anti gun, and AOL was the most expensive of the two ISP's were had. So bye bye.
The gal on the phone admitted to my wife that she knew about AOL's anti gun policy.
So lets all get the word out and those still on AOL dump them.
As for them censoring things, there is a setting box for the spam controls that can be changed to allow things on the private users end.
Several months before we dumped them we updated to AOL 8.0. The first thing we had to do was reset all the settings in the spam control box.

J Miller,
If you haven't verified that they cancelled you, make sure that you give them a call. In fact make a couple. AOL is notorious for not cancelling you in spite of repeated requests.
The did this to me when I cancelled a while back. They offered me 30 days free to switch over all my Emails and accounts to a new ISP. What I found out is that they never put in a cancellation order, they just gave me 30 days free. I called them and got the runaround. Called back again several days later and after a bit of transferring around I finally got a cancellation number.
Oh..and they keep your account in an inactive status and your billing information on file even though you've cancelled. That way all you have to do is log back on and AOL service restarts for you.

Ok,
So I'm going to dump AOL. Are MSN or Earthlink ok? The reason I ask about those two is that they're already installed on my PC.

I can guarantee that they aren't blocking Guns America based on their content but because of spam issues.... not that Guns America is sending out spam, but AOL is VERY strict when it comes to how e-mail servers are setup. I don't even understand the details, but something about all servers have to have a reverse IP that can be looked up and traced back to the correct source (see postmaster.info.aol.com (http://postmaster.info.aol.com/))... if not, the site gets blocked. Kills too many legitimate e-mails and all the while all the "viagra / hot teens / lose weight / home mortgage" e-mails stilll find ways through.
BUT that doesn't mean AOL isn't anti-second amendment. They are and very much so!
Take a look at the last few posts in this topic:

Are MSN or Earthlink ok?Earthstink's been OK, so far.
MSN is, of course, controlled by Microsoft, and therefore has ties to the UN, the Trilateral Commission, and the Church of Scientology. They'd insert mind control probes into you if they thought they could get away with it. (Come to think of it, they already do...) And Gates is on record as an anti.

they keep the police busy. One trick they use is to sign you up for various AOL services and bill your credit card. A lot of aol customers don't pay much attention to their credit cards and aol gets to take their money for a long time.
They signed me up for AOL Autovantage!- a sham automobile club of some sort and deducted $99.95 from my credit card. I turned them in to the Federal Trade Commission and about 2 weeks later a local police detective called me. He said that a good portion of his case load involves getting refunds from AOL internet fraud scams.

I've been on Earthlink for about 4 years and have never had a problem with banned sites or receiving e-mails. Their spam blocker is one of the best I've used and I always got my messages from all the sites I had subscribed to. If they are owned by AOL, there's different people in charge with a different set of priorities.

AOL is losing subscribers and money...lots of it!!
Associated Press reports in today's newspaper that AOL has lost 1.2 million subscribers this year so far. The big winner is United Online, created from the merger of Juno and NetZero. The price is right, but connections may be inconsistent and customer sevice has a $1.95/minute charge (per the AP report).

Welcom aboard, Panache, and thanks for the info.
As for AOL, they have a looooong track record of blocking e-newsletters ent out by conservative organizations. Been going on for years. Funny, liberal e-newsletters don't seem to have the same problem, AFAIK.
Are MSN or Earthlink ok? The reason I ask about those two is that they're already installed on my PC.
You don't need ANYBODY'S software installed on your computer. All you need is a browser and an email program. Sign up with anybody - they'll tell you how to change the computer settings to access their service. If any changes are needed, that is.
Don't be a slave to an ISP. Learn to do it yourself.

I preached, shouted, screamed, yelled and cussed to try to get my brother in law to NOT start with AOL. He did it anyway. The same day, he realized what a POS it really is and called to cancel. It took four [4] calls before they would cancel him. In the last call, he threatened to sick his lawyer on them. That was the trick that did it.

AOHell = The CheezeWhiz of the internet world.
Drop 'em, and forget Earthlink and MSN, too. Get yourself a local ISP and support your community.
2A, sitting in his ISP office waiting for the servers to crash again, but at least we aren't AOHell! :)
