moooose102 April 1, 2008, 01:34 PM ok, i know you are NOT supposed to re-load the aluminum cased cci blazer ammo, but i just had to try it. i only did 3 rounds, and sure enough 2 of the 3 split upon firing, right down the side. so, then i decided to try loading my "target" rubber bullets, the ones you only use the primer to shoot. they work great for that. so far i have reprimered one case at least 6 times. so before you leave those soft aluminum "scrap cases" at the range, rethink it a little, maybe you too can find a good use for them.

GhostlyKarliion April 1, 2008, 01:42 PM aluminum is nearly a dollar a pound now, I have a very good use for those cases, heh.
Snowdog April 1, 2008, 07:13 PM Sounds like a great way to put these to good use I suppose.
Last I checked, CCI Blazers aluminum cases were berdan primed. Weren't they a PITA to deprime? Though this is certainly and interesting way to recycle aluminum cases without a doubt, couldn't boxer-primed brass cases been converted to such use more readily?
moooose102 April 1, 2008, 07:32 PM the primers just poped right out, just like normal. they are boxer primed, at least my 45acp's are. i dont know about other calibers. it seems to me it would be a pain for the factory to use berdan primes since all the rest of their stuff (at least what i am aware of) is boxer primed.
Snowdog April 1, 2008, 07:49 PM It's quite possible they're now boxer primed as I haven't used the stuff in ages, however it was definitely berdan primed back in the day (I suppose to discourage reloading).
briansp82593 April 1, 2008, 08:24 PM i dont know all of the priming terms, but heres a pic of 45 blazer i shot maybe a year or 2 ago... sorry for the poor quality it was taken very fast...

Halo April 1, 2008, 09:12 PM That one is definitely Berdan primed. The two flash holes are a dead giveaway. Boxer primed cases have one flash hole in the center.

Thanks for the clarification! :)
macmuffy April 2, 2008, 12:52 AM Is there any way to tell which type of primer is used by looking at an unfired round? Either rifle or pistol.
Uninformed questions abound.....
.
NWdude83 April 2, 2008, 01:24 AM Aluminum blazer is my favorite for plinking. Cheap, accurate, reliable, and not smoky.
moooose102 April 2, 2008, 12:15 PM well, if i could figure out how to post pics here (i am definitly tech challenged) i would post the single hole right down the middle of these blazer cases. i dont know when or why the change, or if i just got lucky, but i am just going to keep using them.
Snowdog April 2, 2008, 12:21 PM Hey, if you've got something that works for you, by all means continue.
One advantage I can think of by using aluminum cases that happen to be Boxer primed is that it's quite unlikely you'd accidently use one of these cases during the reloading of traditional copper and lead (a case with an enlarged flash hole, if used with a standard reload, could very well make a mess of things).
