So, hey, the price is a LOT better than the Federal Hydrashoks that I keep around for social engagements... Anyone shoot these much? How well do they expand? Or feed?

I shoot them now and then, and have found that they feed well in all of my 45's (3 SA 1911A1's and a SW457(of course that one will eat anything!).

They shoot great - but I haven't checked out penetration, expansion, etc. - so the the more ballistically oriented members will have to help you out on that part of it.

How much better? CTD has 230gr .45 HS's for $20/box of 50. Thats the best price I've seen for them.

In my unscientific mud tests, they always expand, and I've never had 1 round of the stuff fail to ignite. It seems good enough to me.

These are my carry round because they are actually cheap enough that I can practice with the ammo I carry. I've had no problems with them feeding at all.

Kiesler's has the 230gr Hydra-Shoks for $16.95/50 and the 185gr +P for $17.95/50. They also have the Gold Dots in the same price range.

I asked the exact same question a few weeks ago. Read the thread here (http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32693).

Most of the people otherwise inclined to answer your question probably posted there first...

Okay - But hey, why is it that Bass Pro, etc., are selling boxes of 20 of the Federals for that price... Owie.

Most places around here sell the boxes of 20 for around $15. CTD actually was selling the 50/box for $17 last time I bought them, they seem to have gone up or were on sale last time I bought them. They were the first and only place I saw selling them 50/box. I'm partial to Federal, and use the Hydra Shok's in all my pistols. They feed like hardball in my 45's and I'm comfortable with them.

- my carry round too. Tests usually show good performance. With the low price I can shoot a lot of it AND stock up on it.

www.ammolab.com tested the 115 gr. 9mm round, look under one of the 9mm test sections for Winchester USA9JHP. I use it as my standard carry round.
