I have a Win 94 in said caliber. Even with a decelerator pad installed, it is a mule to shoot. I would like to be able to shoot it more often, but often times leave it at home due to recoil. Anyone know of any data for reduced loads? I would like to find a "plinking round" for it loading either 200 or 240 gn jacketed bullets with it. I realize it isn't going to be a cowboy action gun, just looking for something a little less brutal. I am currently loading IMR 4198 for hunting. I have read the other common published data, but was wondering if anyone has any experience using the other powders. Anything out there gonna make it more enjoyable?

You might research using some cast bullets and Trail Boss, a little goes a long way and makes some pleasant plinking loads for .45-70, I can't imagine that it would be much different in a .444.

I won't make any load reccomendations to you, some others that are actually in possession of a .444 may do that.

Check out the Accurate Arms web site and the 5744 loads . That should give you what you are looking for. The 5744 was developed for large cases and giving you Blackpowder type velocities (lower) in large bore cases. and has the advantage of not being position sensitve. Its great for running the reducded type loadings you are looking for.
